First 1GHz GPU? Sapphire 4890 Vapor-X

Amazing they pushed the 55nm this far/hard. Can't wait to see what we get from a mature 40nm process in about 12 months time.

Holy crap thats awesome. Wonder how much itll cost. We can see what a 1ghz 4890 can do from AT's recent article- top stuff.

So this is why the reference PCB had a place for an extra 8 pin connector instead of a 6 pin one, for crazy non reference 4890. 🙂 It's a viable solution to gtx 285, if Sapphire doesn't gets greedy and asks a premium for it.

1GHZ is sexy no matter what, but it is still a sapphire.

You have a problem with Sapphire? Aside from the tech support, they make the highest quality ATI video cards on the market.

The only time in 10 years that I ever had a card that I had to call tech support over was an eVGA card and they told me to go f myself.

dguy6789 is probably right. Their support is pretty soddy but rarely is it needed. When it is, prepare to be disappointed. They are no XFX when it comes to support/warranty.

The cards are pretty much fantastic however. And the Vapor-X line is very quite, and obviously this one overclocks like a beast. This is what I have been waiting for when I first heard about the 4890 clocks, I figured it was only a matter of time before someone pushed it.

That HSF is my all-time favorite since dual-slot design became a norm. (first seen with 7800 GTX 512) It's quiet, efficient, and I can actually clean the fan.

And yet they have only a 2 years time warranty for their cards. My Sapphire 4870 also 512 needed a bios flash to work right. I doubt that they make the highest quality ATI cards on the market.

Sapphire has been a leader in ATI video cards for a very, very long time. One or two mistakes isn't a reason to hate them. eVGA's 7900GT KO Edition had a higher failure rate than the original Xbox 360 and people still like them.

How do you feel about eVGA? And why did they tell you to go F yourself?

my 7900 GTX had one like that also, very efficient indeed. I might grab two of these if temps are as reported given the performance they have.

Well, I know you'd be doing me a favor by blocking my posts. This way, you won't jump all over anything I post at all.

I asked the guy how he felt about eVGA, and why they told him to F off.

What...... is....... your...... problem?????? And how did you decide that my post was nonsense?

Do me a favor, start a PFI thread with your complaints. Or PM anandtech moderator account with your complaints. My god.

@ MW: I know. WTF?????

If you can tell me I would appreciate it. Been looking to block a few folks for a while now.

If anyone else has a question about whether it's possible to block users, then we have a subforum for those types of questions. The Video forum isn't the place to be derailing threads by discussing it.

Must... resist...

I have the Sapphire Toxic 4870 and have to say this is probably the best card I've owned. I max out CCC with 27% fan speed no problem. My temps are a solid 25C lower than the reference cards. I can and have run my memory at an effective 4600, though I do get artifacts in ATItool fur test, but every game runs fine that I've tried.

Luckily I haven't had to deal with their tech support, but based on my limited experience with their product I have nothing but good things to say.
