Awesome. Thanks for the link. This should bring my nostalgico-O-meter all the way up :D The issues I grew up with (circa 1993-97) are not available for downloading yet, but it's still an incredible piece of gaming history. Now if only EGM did something similar... (they haven't, right? :p)

Yeah, having it being called Games for Windows is a way for M$ to put a choke hold on the Linux/Apple gaming community. I hate how the magazine is now anyways. They just have everyone else's reviews and come up with an average. Hell, they even admit it themselves in every issue. The should instead call it The 1-Up Regurgitaion Zine

Pity. I used to love the magazine back in '96ish...the reviews were so well written.

Interestingly, the PDF files linked for the first 100 issues are very high res, which is great. The files are large (about 55MB each)...probably more data than all the software featured per issue put together

That's one thing I noticed too. Large file sizes with 1.41GB total for all 100 issues.

No ... Microsoft never asked them to do it. Arg ... CGW went up to microsoft to get approval to having an offical magazine for Windows. They convinced microsoft to market the windows as a platform. Then Microsoft sent it a request to every major PC game developer (bioware,id,valve, dice, ect) to give approval of the magazine and any feebacks... they said it was okay to go ahead. Then Microsoft chose the name to be Games for window. CGW don't get crap all from Microsoft.. no cash just the right to be offical windows game magazine. Check CGW podcast because they do still bash XBOX 360 and Microsoft for stupid things... they wouldn't if microsoft controlled them. The reason CGI even went to microsoft because they came to a point where they couldn't sell any more magazine and to get more readers they need to something drastic... most magazine face that issue.

Also CGW ain't going to kiss microsoft ass.

I myself thought they were an excellent magazine back in '04. The reason why I never subscribed to them was pretty much because their hardware sections suck nuts. Half the time, it didn't even sound like they know wtf they're talking about. And I swear they are bribed. In one issue, they declared the X1800XT/X as the new King of video cards. Well, in every hardware review site I view (HotHardware, Guru3D, AT, etc.) the 7800GTX seriously spanked the X1K cards while in CGW's it was quite the opposite. Also, why would you subscribe to a PC gaming-only magazine when you can subscribe to Maximum PC, which has game AND hardware reviews :D

Hmmm, I'll have to look at my sources again. I wouldn't be suprised if they're wrong. They're HUGE M$ haters. I myself stopped reading CGW and only take what I hear from other forumers.

Umm, that is bullsh1t. I admit I used the word spank wrong. I looked at the AT review again and it seemed that the 7800GTX had it's wins and the X1800XT had it's wins. Now, this is before ATI's OpenGL performance increase. Now, I'm not sure if there was a new driver that increased performance, but I am real sure that an X1800XT is equivalent to a 7800GTX.

What does me misunderstanding some information have to do with my age and hating things?

Uh, They own (as in purchase, not pwn) 1-up dummy. They put the more time sensitive info online at 1-up then the more in-depth articles in CGW. They stopped putting 1-5 Stars on reviews because game devs kept using the star rating out of context to pimp their games that may otherwise have had serious faults. They OWN 1-up so that's where the "stars" review has gone... That is a realtime review score on 1-up that reflects patches and whatnot and can vary in realtime as gamers provide input. If you want some 1-10 or 1-5 scale, go elsewhere. CGW gives you the ARTICLE on the game... you know for those of us that read.

As for some MS conspiracy theory (it's MS, not M$ too...what are you like 10 years old? ) that's a crock.

Choke the Linux/Apple gaming community? HAHA man that's like going to the morgue and choking a corpse why bother? CGW has never pandered to Linux/Apple (what is there to pander to ?? ) so changing the name is nothing new here.
