I've heard some scary things, both in the real world and in movies/games, but nothing can compare to Epic's voice acting for the berserkers in GoW. I seriously jumped out of my chair when I heard it scream, which I never do.

Christ some of the opinions in this thread make my head hurt. How can you compare this game to Doom 3? It's nothing like it at all but of course those of you bashing it wouldn't know that since you're always too busy arguing about 3DMark and mipmap transitions on these forums to actually know something about games. Stick to your red..oops green vs. green nonstop fanboy arguments because you sound like phucking morons when comparing GoW to Doom 3 or even calling it the same genre.

A well constructed logical argument without any senseless name calling, thanks for that. You alone have opened my eyes to the error of my ways. :roll: Gosh I didn't know they gave out rabies with this game.

I don't like how you have to stop moving to shoot (no run and gun). Also, I find it quite humorous watching someone try to aim with a controller. Using a mouse is SO much more fluid.

hahahhahaahhah Nice sig! I rather spend 2hours playing Gears than staring at "high IQ" foilage with a $650 video card anyday.

Hey, if you like it, great. Have fun. I gave reasons as to why it didn't look enticing for me. It's pretty bad when you have to have the game's user-base try and convince others that the assumptions they got from the preview were wrong.

IIRC, you spent a pretty penny on your computer rig less than a year ago and did just that, look at Oblivion's pretty foliage.

For what it's worth, I do like the console's Co-op capabilities. Computer gaming is just much more of an individual venture that can have the option of multiplayer over the net, but Co-op was a great feature that I remember loving in consoles dating back to the N64's "Perfect Dark." GoW seems like it's a good game for it's genre, its just that I'm tired of consoles centering on that genre for some of their biggest titles. Give us something similar without it involving aliens, zombies, vampires or some other ridiculous enemy. What redbox said about the beginning of HL2 was exactly what I'm wanting myself.

I was a big fan of the begining of HL2 I loved the 1984 feel of it all. I would like games to move away from the visceral. I would like games to start playing off of the mind and how we all enteract with one another. I would love a political coup d?État type of game. One where you become a hero through your actions and leadership qualities. I have grown tired of just being droped into this ultimate warrior type that already has hero status. I think the dynamics of a story built out of the parols of society would have alot of emotional appel to people and it would draw the player into the game world even more. I heard about the ambitions that the developers of next gen games had: engage the player more, play off of more emotions than just anger and fright. I would still like to see them do this. The one thing I do like that this game seams to do is the enteraction among NPC's and you. Like the revive thing that looks pretty cool. Those are just some of the things I would like to see develop in gaming. It seams we have been stuck in a rut the past couple of years with game development.

Im currently on Act 2 in GOW (Hardcore difficulty) and all I can say is *WOW* ..this game is absolutely beautiful to look at and a lot of fun to play, At first I was sort of "meh" but after getting used to the controls you realise the gameplay is very satisfying.

I'm at the 'mastering the controls' stage. Never played an FPS-type game on a console and can say the controls suck pretty bad at the beginning.....but it's getting better. I think if I played at beyond the easiest setting right now I'd get whooopped. Other than that, the hype is actually legit for once.

BTW, the argument as to whether this is a 'FPS' or not is kind of moot, IMO. The main thing is that the primary focus is pointing and shooting and when you aim, it is pretty much on a first person basis (though you can argue that you are acutally watching over the shoulder). It is still not as natural as mouse/keyboard.

and you expect us to believe that you use these rigs for... what? really high quality pron viewing???

most ppl run 3dmark06 to make sure that their system is working properly and whatever OCing they've done has produced favorable results... and after that, we use these high powered rigs to play games at settings the vast majority of consoles could never match.

while most console gamers are playing on their old 480i TV's, with no AA and no AF, i get to see my games in their full glory at 1920x1200. and even those who have the best TV's - 1080p - they still don't get 4xAA and 16xHQAF. and YES, it makes a HUGE difference in the way the game looks and plays. and those with 8800gtx's can run them on 30" LCD's at 2560x1600 with 4xQAA and 16xHQAF... and believe me, that looks absolutely mind-blowing.

at any rate, i do agree PC gaming is on the decline and yes, the complexity of a fast computer is probably part of the reason... that is, it's cheaper/easier to develop for a standard system (console) and it's easier for consumers to just get a standard system (console) rather than having to assemble a computer that's fast enough... however, i hope it doesn't die because computers offer tremendous advantages: they are typically on the cutting edge of graphics, better resolutions, big mod communities, are usually more effective for certain types of games (RTS, FPS, etc) and so on...

consoles have caught up in some of these areas, so maybe we're just gonna have the technologies merge... ie, you have a computer by your HDTV that is like an htpc (plays/records movies, music, pictures, etc) but is also good for gaming, browsing, etc...

With the 360 you can stream music, movies, and TV content from your PC, or surf the net. With 3rd party hardware, you can back-up your games to your PC HDD too. You can use your i-pod, the HD-DVD player is out soon, Live marketplace is starting to ramp up content as well. I believe it is the 22nd? that they will have a lot of new stuff available i.e. more HD movie trailers, more arcade games, new skins, avatar packs, HD game trailers, downloadable game content, ect. You can log in from any PC and check your gamer card, to see what friends are on, what games the are playing, ect. Hotties can, and do, send you pics of themselves, you can private chat them up on a wireless headset while on your wireless controller, sitting in your theater seat with your feet up, while free riding i.e. drag racing, jumping the river, racing through the mountains, ect. together in a pack of 8 in TD unlimited.

My point is that the 360, and doubtless the PS3, aren't everything they will be, they will keep adding content. GoW looks and plays great, BTW. Good voice acting, semi-generic but enjoyable storyline, excellent graphics, brutal throwdown content *you can turn it off if you don't want gore ya know *, and co-op as mentioned, is a hoot.

Beserkers are ez BTW, just walk slow, press A and move the stick to get out of their way, and nuke 'em with the hammer of dawn, which is a great concept weapon.
