Firmware upgrade smoked my BEFW11S4 v2

Tried to run the TFTP program per the install instructions and it smoked my router! Ater several minutes (half hour) wait, they tell me that the red flashing diag light means RMA! What a pain.

Yikes...

did the power shut off or something... it's odd that it'd just up and quit because of flashing the firmware (I've done that about 10 times with my linksys router)

I've been flashing motherboards and cards since 93. Believe it or not I have never smoke a firmware upgrade. I followed the instructions verbatum and it just died half way through. The only thing I can think of is that I am not using the standard 192.168.1.1 for my gateway and that I lost my internal connection half way through the upgrade.

Got it fixed. Ended up having to:
1) do a hard reset
2) reset to a static IP in the 192.168.1.x range
3) had to reflash
4) do another hard reset
5) change my IP for my machine back to DHCP
6) ping to ensure I could talk to the server 192.168.1.1
7) then I could go back in change to my settings

The key was #4 I guess for that extra hard reset in the middle.

Hope this ends up helping someone else.
