firmware update please help

Ok I have a PS3 that picture blinks anytime I turn it on. it just recently started after I got my
BOSE Lifestyle v20 and Benq w500. I read and it sounds like I need a firmware update for both. I have looked everywhere and I havent found anything that could help me. I already updated my PS3 to the latest. If anyone has any Ideas i would really appreciate it. It sucks not being able to play the PS3

I'd like to tell you it's the Bose system causing the problem so you could replace it, but that would be too convenient.

Where did you read that it was a firmware problem? You're asking for help finding an update for the Benq?

I am asking for both. I read about one for the L series bose but i dont have that. unless l series means lifestyle. It drives me crazy. I love the sound bose makes. I know everyone hates them but I have older parents living with me and i needed something really simple for them. and all in one bose makes it really easy on them.

If it's a video problem, can you route the video straight from the PS3 to the projector and just hook up sound to the Bose system?

Did you call Bose to see if they can help you locate the firmware update?

FYI there are fairly affordable remote controls that can be programed to turn on several devices / configure inputs / etc. that can make even complicated systems simple to operate once the remote is programed.

Why do you feel you need a firmware update? Did you double check the video settings for the PS3? How do you have it set? The w500 is a 720p projector, and I'm not sure if it supports 24p. If you have that turned on in the PS3, that could be your problem.

How is the v20 set? It defaults to 720p, so if you have the PS3 set to anything higher, the picture may blink to adjust to the higher resolution.

As for your Bose comment, people dislike them for a good reason. They are way over priced for what you get. The sound from the V20 is sub par, as it has almost no treble. The bass isn't much better, because the speakers in the bass module are so small. With the $1700 to $2000 you spent on the V20, you could do so much better.

Read this review on the V20. It sums up my, and most in this thread, view on Bose. If you can return it, you should.

Almost any receiver today will be at worst, equal to the Bose as far as ease of use goes. However, with new speakers, the improvement in sound will be great. If you want better control, then a programmable remote like YOyoYO mentioned, is a must.

$2000!? Insane. You could get, say this (see sidebar bundle deal) and an excellent AVR, not to mention a bunch of even cheaper combos that are still better than the Bose junk.

The projector excepts up to 1080i. I have a high defention recieve hooked up to it and it runs fine. I already did all the firmware updates on the ps3 and have done some research. It said to fix the blinking screeen you need to have the firmware update. I just cant find it

I also just bought a blue ray player set to 1080i it works perfect. I just need to fix my ps3 for games now.

Did you call Bose yet? I believe they do updates via CD through the mail?

I was going to make a sig comment before but I didn't. Based on the sig, it seems like you have money and want to get high performance.

Bose is high price without high performance. If you want to get an expensive system, you can spend the 2,000 (or $20,000 or $200,000) and get a great system.
If it's causing a problem with your system and you can't figure out a solution, ditch it and get a system that's high performance. You can get something that plays louder, has lower distortion, extends over a wider frequency range (both high and low), has more features, and more accurately produces sound as intended for the same price (or less or more than you spent... it's up to you)

Then I'm convinced that your problem is either a setting in your PS3, or the cable it is using. In the PS3, go to video settings, then BD 1080p 24Hz Output (HDMI). If it is set to automatic, turn it off.

I also want to confirm that under the Video Output Settings, you have Custom selected, and then you unchecked 1080p on the Select resolutions that are supported by your TV, page.

If you have done all of this, did you do as someone else suggested, and take the HDMI cable that is going back to the w500, and unplug it from the Bose, and connect it directly to the PS3, to see if you still get the flashes?

If you have done all this, and still have issues, then I will agree that the problem is with the Bose, and that you will have to contact them to see if they have firmware available that deals with your HDMI issue.

I'm pretty sure it's not the 2k he has issues with, it's that you spent 2k on the Bose V20. The only thing good about Bose is their marketing department. As a said before, you would be doing yourself a favor by returning the Bose, and getting something else.

What is it about the V20 that you liked? Was it the size of the speakers, or the Bose name? What did you compare it to? The speed test in your sig, suggests that you might be in Canada. Did you listen to any of the brands from there?

It's a 720p projector, feeding it 1080i is not really helping you any. Did you try feeding 720p?

I have it hooked up through Component. It is onn that has 3 ends and hooks up all my stuff. My wii my xbox 360 and a ps3. I dont have any problems with the xbox or Wii just the PS3 so it must be with that unit.

Yes I did. It didnt effect it at all. Same thing happened so i just changecd it back to 1080i. I really wish I bought the more expensive one now. I may just end up buying a 1080p one.

I know that bose is a bit over priced buy it is a house home name. If I go out and talk about it. Saying I ahve a bose sounds more impressive then a HK or Onkyo. I like talking about my system that I have no one else around hear has a 12 foot tv with a bose system. I have lots of partys and people love it. The only thiing I dont like about the bose is that it doesnt accept the truehd audio format.

Alright. If you bought it so you could tell people what you have and that's what makes you happy, that's fine.

I agree that it would be better if you were able to get the better sound tracks from your movies and play them back well.

Maybe I missed it, do you already try to just connect the PS3 directly to the projector yet to bypass the Bose video processing?

Is your system hooked up via component as part of the troubleshooting, or is that the regular configuration (as opposed to HDMI)?

Unless you can get a full refund, I don't see the point of changing the projector. You'll take a big loss for not so big gain.

I tried using hdmi but It didnt work. I hook up the ps3 and the xbox 360 and my Wii with a 3 way component cable.

If you didn't reset the ps3 after you changed to HDMI, then that is why it didn't work. I think you have to hold the power button down to reset it, but I'm not 100% sure. It's in the manual though.

EDIT: I was close. Turn the PS3 off, then restart it by pressing & holding the power button. That will reset the video, and you should then be able to set the HDMI to 1080i.
