I installed the new patch yesterday on my ver 1 Befsr41, and every thing appears to function just fine. No dropping off-line, no problems with on-line gaming, of course I will keep a close eye on my linksys and look for any abnormalities. ronach

Rig, if I were you, I'd try the firmware update and if it did the "job", I'd try to return the new router. Also, I understand that the wireless is NOT as secure as the wired. I know nothing about that argument!!

My connection seems to drop off once or twice a day after performing this upgrade. I've seen a couple of other people reporting the same behavior. My router has been running for 3 or 4 years now without issue -- until I upgraded to this firmware. I'm going back to the old firmware.

I've had no problems with the new firmware. I flashed to it the first day it was available.

LOL Just discovered that my reply to RIG on 6/9 should have been directed to fluxquantum.
BTW, I'd still do what I suggested you to do with the old router!!
Apologize for my mixup of the "handle".

I was just looking at a long thread over at broadbandreports.com and there are problems for DCHP users, but not PPPoE users. Apparently, IP renewal is not working properly on many systems.

I am really sorry to see anyone having a problem with this firmware update. I would never had posted the info had I known there would be problems. I updated my version 2 and have had no problems whatsoever. Of course, we really should not update firmware unless we are having conflicts. I have always read that but I must admit I don't always heed that advice cause I am always wanting "more" from my computer.

I'm certain that nobody is blaming you, Bu, for their router being screwed up from this "not ready for primetime" firmware update. I, for one, appreciate you posting this info. Anyway, it's easy enough to go back to an older version of the firmware.

I only went to this firmware because it supposedly fixes a security hole. However, after more reading info about the security hole, it appears to be very unlikely to occur to a home user with a small LAN.

Thanks for your support and understanding Pauli. Still tho, I hate to see anyone have PC problems for any reason.. I updated my router beforeposting the info and I had no problems. And, I also read that the action could be reversed. Still tho....

No one is blaming you Bu. Not your fault!

You may or may not have problems depending on your setup (DSL PPoE, cable DHCP, static, etc)

I had the same problems the others have had (cable modem with DHCP)

1) DHCP does not auto renew. You have to manually do it (every 12 hr in my case)
2) Every time you renew, you get a brand new IP which is bizarre since my mac doesn't change.

I went back to 1.42.7 and all is well again.

Aw, crud. I went back to the 1.45.7 version because of the problems with the .11 version, and now my router is intermittently locking up. Sometimes the red "Diag" light stays lit and I have to remove the power connection to reset it (the reset button doesn't even cure the problem) and sometimes it just doesn't respond and the reset button does fix the problem.

Argh! I went about 2 years without problems with this router with this firmware. Now, as soon as I try to upgrade to the latest/greatest, I have all kinds of problems. I guess the moral of the story is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Ah, I just checked the linksys page and now they have posted the 1.46 version of the firmware which lists only one fix:

1.46 June 24, 2004 1. Fixed DHCP renewal.

This better work, or I'm gonna be really pissed at Linksys!

Got my fingers and ?? crossed for you Pauli!! AND now that I think of it, I had to disconnect the power a couple of times some time AFTER I had updated my router. However, we were having terrific thunder storms at the time with some very sharp/close lightening and that may have caused the "freeze" of my router. I haven't have any problems since.

Thank you Bu. I have just installed the new firmware and will monitor the connection to see if it works ok. My connection would drop off 4-5 times a day, so I had to reset the router all the time! (Posted about this too, with no satisfactory replies) Plus MSN Messenger voice connection also doesn't work outside of Canada for me. So I'm really hoping this is firmware fixes all of this.

Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention :)
