Firmware 3.0

Might be, I had the same problem cept mine froze way early when he finds the U-Boat. Anyway I thought my ps3 was just defective so I exchanged for a new one and never updated it. I played through the same part with no problems, but it could just be a coincidence.

Well, I upgraded and I have to agree with everyone else. The huge font and icons are hideous. If you can't read it, you need glasses.

I exchanged the game today and played for a few minutes. The new copy seemed to get though the "freeze" part from last night ok. Although I'm reading a lot of posts on the playstation forums (US and Europe) about game freezes (mostly Uncharted) after installing Firmware 3.0.

I wished I had held off on the firmware update for awhile. If the firmware is the cause of the freezing problem I hope an update is released soon.
 
Not sure what ads and large fonts people are complaining about. I promptly got rid of that snow effect and, other than the PSStore being everywhere, things look more or less the same.

For whatever reason, as soon as I updated the font size of the XMB easily doubled. I play on a 42" 1080p LCD and I'd say that each letter of a submenu (Theme Settings/Accessory Settings, etc.) is about 1.5" tall. I don't much care for that. I can't find a way to change it.

I would have to agree. I downloaded it last night, and though I didn't investigate it thoroughly, the few minutes I spent messing around with it didn't cause me to get in an uproar. I turned off the What's New thing, and other than the PSN Store being in almost every freaking list (what's up with that?), I've noticed little to no difference with 3.0. Yes, there is a clock in the upper right hand corner. Yes, it's not the greatest design. Big deal.

People just like to whine.
 
upgraded last night and it seems ok. I don't mind some of the changes you guys are complaining about. I don't like the PSN store icon everywhere though.
 
Yeah PSN store icons under games, videos, and PSN and not under music and the other stuff makes Sony look retarded.

Does Uncharted still work for you?
 
Upgraded last night. Only real differences I see is that (as others have mentioned) the PSN store icon is everywhere, but it is at the top of my menus and you don't have to go all the way to the top if you don't want to. My PS3 is set to not automatically sign it, so I don't get scrolling messages in the upper right hand corner of the screen until I choose to sign in.

The biggest noticeable change is quite welcome IMO. They seemed to have increased the font sizes for the menus and added a blur effect to make the selected item stand out. Very welcome IMO as the menus were hard to read at 1080p on my 32in TV.
 
They need a way to disable the scroll, as thats very annoying. And lose the grey box around friends. I do like the dynamic themes. I bought the LBP one, and downloaded the Afrika one from the JP store. I can't wait for more. To be honest, there doesnt seem to be much of a change...not really worthy of "3.0" IMO. I will say that it was one of the faster updates though..I was downloading at 1MB/s.
 
They need a way to allow people to select an animated background, but use icons of their own choosing. The Afrika animated theme looks very nice, but the icons are very hard to see.
 
They need to remove all the icons for the Store.

Hey Sony, guess what? I knew where it was before when there was only 1 icon!

This is how fast everything downloads for me. 😉 I had a post earlier about how to fix slow PSN downloads (updates included...except GAME updates are terrible ALWAYS). Maybe Sony has rolled out some internal changes so that the system isn't as "picky" (or whatever) with certain networking setups/hardware?
 
I decided to try connecting my PS3 to my router through an ethernet cable instead of using Wi-Fi. There is a 300% global increase in download speeds for me now.
 
One thing I do not like about firmware 3.0 is the new power-on jingle. Before, it sounded like a nice symphony. Now, it sounds like a completely out-of-tune symphony. 🙁

Minor quibble, to be sure, but why change something like that? The original jingle was just fine. Another case of "changing something just to change something" syndrome. :disgust:
