There are a number of USB2+FireWire combo cards available. There are also plenty of front panel units that can handle each format. The only unique feature of this kit is that it may use a regular IDE cable between the two. You can achieve the same results by mixing and matching components.

FireWire functions are not supported by Mac OS at this moment.

Thanx for the reply! Do you know who else makes front 3.5" panel unit/hubs, or where's a good place to look?

Who makes the chipsets on these boards?

I'm thinking of the Adaptec Duo Connect.

I do not want a VIA product. I prefer to stay VIA free. :Q

Call it silly, but those three letters feel like a curse, bad taste in the mouth, etc.

Cheers!

For the Koutech Combo PCI card, NEC does the PCI/main functions chip, VIA(oops!) does FireWire controller, the PCI-PCI bridge is a HiNT controller...

Be careful with the FrontX unit, it's not a hub but an extender. I made that mistake with a similar unit and promptly returned it. I bought a USB 2.0/Firewire Combo Internal Hub from Bytecc through Ebay a couple of weeks back - works great.

Yep, know that. I'm buying Koutech's PCI FW/USB2 card(#7002), which has internal FW & USB2 connections. My FrontX units will plug into that...

Have you seen the Vantec Nexus? I might actually look into buying one of those and replace my Bytecc hub with that!
