I've checked google, and found sites explaining "what a Firewire to USB cable and/or adapter is" but nowhere to buy one. So I checked monoprice and a few other sites I know that sell cables and adapters but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I have a 1st gen iPod, and its still going strong. I have been using it a lot more lately since I moved jobs and now use public transportation. I always charged it or added songs at home, but now I want to be able to charge or listen to it at work. Well of course my work computer only has USB, and not firewire.

So what I need is a cable thats 6 pin 1394-firewire on one side and connects via USB A Male on the other. A simple adapter/converter should work too. Anyone know where I can find one? Or even if such a thing exists. Thanks

Really? You saw a 6-pin 1394 to USB A Male?

I saw a bunch of them too, like This one for digital camera's, but thats 4-pin 1394. I need 6-pin.

They also have these but those are for the new iPods even though it says original, the seller obviously doesn't know what their talking about. The 1st gen iPods didn't have docking stations. I have the absolute first iPod on the market, 5 GB which seems to pale in comparisson to todays - and yet it suits me fine.

Unfortunetely you can't find the right accessories for it anymore. But if you did find this cable i'm talking about please post a link. On eBay or otheriwse. I may have overlooked it even though I did various searches and found lots, just not what I need

BTW the first gen iPod's look like this. See the firewire on the top? That is the 6-pin firewire connection, I need that 6-pin male to USB A Male or at least an adapter so that I can plug my 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable into it and plug it into computers that don't have firewire

I just got an PM from someone who sent me a link explaining why what I need isn't even possible.

So I guess my question has been answered :(

Yeah, I don't think there is such a thing, and I'm quite sure it wouldn't be capable of charging even if it did exist.

FW has 12V source - USB has only 5V source. Hardly enough to get out of its own way much less charge anything else...

i doubt it's possible. as Zepper stated, Firewire uses a higher voltage. plus i think that the base technology is a bit different. The best thing you can do is probablly buy the wall adaper and or just buy a cheap powered FireWire hub.
