There would be no connection without some sort of hub. Firewire and USB are very different. USB to USB in PC to Firewire in PC to Firewire device is the cheapest route.

Firewire is a derivative of SCSI III - has no relationship at all to USB. That is why I use both. Put in an Adaptec Duo-Connect card - 3 Firewire ports and 2 USB 2. I know of no hub that would link the two except for that type of card where both ports are featured.

heres the problem though/kicker. The comps on campus are the campus's computers so I cant really go in and install the card, unless you can plug it in from an outside source. unless that hub is external of course

USB requires a host. Firewire does not. So, to go USB to Firewire, you need a host, the PC.

What are you trying to do? Do you have a camera with Firewire? There are cards for under $40 available. Then you need a cable. You just cannot get Firewire into a USB port directly with a cable. Your only other option is S-video or RCA, but you need something to do video in. Here, you would spend as much, and lose quality.
