Firewire TO usb adapter - is there such a thing?

Is there such a thing as a firewire to usb adapter? Similar to a PS/2 to USB adapter?

Obviously the speeds would be limited in such a transfer, but if I could use my external hard drive and iPod on my friends computers who don't have firewire, it would be great.

Sounds highly unlikely due to a ton of issues: current loop mismatch issues, protocol issues and the fact that Firewire is a full duplex transmission method and USB 2.0 is really a half-duplex transmission method.

i recall seeing one a few years ago. it costs a lot more than separate usb and firewire controllers put together
