FireWire Question

I often hear people talk about FireWire but just what is it for? I know it's some new kind of network connection but I don't know what it's really capable of. So can anyone tell me :

1) How it is use?
2) What it's capable of doing?
3) Some brief history of it coz I heard Apple Mac is using it too
4) It's specifications like link speed & sorts.

Any info given is much appreciated. Thank you

Firewire is actually a serial bus interface. It can be used to attach devices to a computer (harddrives, cameras, etc.), which is/was the primary design for it. Want to know more look at IEEE and Apple and Sony.
