Firewire problems with AT7-Max2

I have an Abit AT7-Max2, and it works beautifully, however, its a refurb (from Abit), and the front USB headers dont work. I knew that, and could live with it. However, i finally got a firewire setup (ext. case and 2 drives), and it doesnt work at all. I dont even see firewire listed in the device manager.
I'm running XP Pro SP1, where would firewire show up?
