Firewire problem

I was trying to download a video from my camcorder which uses firewire. The computer would not recognize the camcorder. It wouldn't even make a sound when it got connected. I have two firewire ports so I used both of them and nothing happened. I also have a firewire CF card reader. It works on both ports. So I take my camcorder to work and it works fine with the firewire port. Anybody have an idea what the problem could be? Thanks

I do not need the drivers and yes I did use their software. I have connected the camcorder to the home computer many times in the past two years and never connected it to the work computer, ever. I don't remember ever having to install drivers for it in my home computer. I am using XP pro both at home and at work.
