Firewire peripherials freeze Win98SE ???

Strange Problem just started, when I plug my DV camcorder into my firewire card and turn it on, it freezes windows. And when I turn the camera back off, windows unfreezes. Wierdest thing I have ever seen.

The only change I can think of was removing a modem from the pc.

Anybody had a similar problem?

 
OK, got Win to quit freezing up when I "plug the camera in / turn it on" by updating the drivers for the 1394 card.

But now all it does is flash the wait icon for about a second then goes back to normal. No hardware detect or anything. 🙁

Any ideas?
