Firewire PCI card & cable - $8 (free shipping)

I bought this card from another vender for a similar price a couple of months ago. I use it in a home built system (ECS K7s5a motherboard), with a external HD and camcorder. So far it has worked great for pulling movies off of 4 tapes (2 D8, 2 Hi8) which I used to make DVDs for Christmas.

FYI: It comes with a 6-4 cable.

Great! Please provide the software being used to capture the video. Thanks!!!

Thank you so much for posting.

firewire card cost 30 in best buy. I almost bought one last week.

IF you have Ipod with windows xp sp2, you might have a problem with USB PORT.

only soution that i know is getting a Firewire For now.

Bump bump bump!

Does anyone know if this is a powered port?

Won't be able to charge your Ipod if it's not. Not a big deal for most, but to some it is.

btw: I picked one up. Nice price even if it's not powered. Thanks grandeCC 🙂

There is a power connector on the card. I assume that means the ports are powered? I don't have any devices that would use that functionality though, not to mention the connector from my power supply that fits the card is about 2 inches too short to reach.

Can anyone confirm that this card has powered ports? I need it only to charge my iPod and have no use for it otherwise.

Thanks!

The PCI card works flawlessly with the dv cam - PC + WinXP home.
DVD software:
1. Import video
Window Movie Maker
2. Replay video (larger screen)
Picasa2

Only bummer is my case has a 9 pin connector similar to an internal USB connector that I was hoping to connect to this card to so I had front firewire access.

One question to those that have received it. The jumper comes set to internal 12v on and external 12v off. I would assume that this means that it is pulling it's power from the PCI slot whereas external power would be from the 4 pin power connector. Is there any reason why I need to use the 4 pin external power connector?

Thank you for posting this.

my Ipod works great with it. It charges my ipod. and it's so much faster then usb2. ( much stable too.. People are having problem with xp sp2 and usb2 connection of ipod..)

there is 3 firewire port out side and one port inside ( for front connector.)

WinDV is the best DV capture utility that I have found. It's FREE and I have yet to see it drop a frame for no apparent reason. I have tried all, Vegas, Premiere, Pinnacle, you name it and all have dropped frames on my system. The only thing that it is missing is device control, but that is minor.

I have a F/W card with this (VIA VT6306) chipset and it powers my iPod just fine. Transfers like a bat out of hell too. Great deal!! 😀

I got just the cable from there. Ordered on a Thursday or Fri, and it showd up the following Tues. Very satisfied, works just as well as the $20 I returned to Microcenter after getting this one!

Thanks, OP.

Thanks for the confirmation, tkkidd - just wanted to make sure it would power the iPod before jumping on this!

My PC has a firewire port at the front of the case.
I opened the case and noticed what seems to be a 6 (individual) pin connector that I assume should connect to a PCI card.
Can anyone confirm that this is what I will need to connect the front Firewire port?

TIA,

Jesse

If your motherboard does not have a firewire port on it, then this card will work because it has one internal connector for it. I just got the card last week and it works great. Highly recommend it. Fast shipping is a plus.

might be a silly question, but I did search it and found conflicting answers...so I am asking it over here.
I have a Powerbook and I want to connect my Canon camcorder to it, what cable do I need to buy? 6-4 ? 4-4 ? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.
K.
