Okay

Here is the situation:

I am using a 12 in rev. d powerbook.. so it has FW400... I have it hooked up to the FW400 port on my Apple display.. one of the ports then hooks to my isight the other hooks to a 3 port fw hub.. hooked to the 2 ports on the fw hub are an elgato eye tv (which as a 200 gig external hooked to it) and the other port as a external dvd burner with another 200 gig external hooked to it.. Now.. I have noticed at times that the entire fw. network will stop working.. I notice this because the isight will stop function at times if i m using multiple devices.. I notice it occurs with the elgato and the external dvdr which in turn causes the hard drive connected to unmount..

Can I be overloading my fw bus? will one device manfunctioning cause all the devices to stop functioning?

any help??

Yes. Generally all laptop 1394 ports are 4-pin, unpowered. They are designed to connect to powered devices such as cameras, camcorders, external burners, drives, etc.

A simple solution is to connect a powered hub to the laptop port, and then connect other devices to the powered hub.
