is it possible for a firewire card to transfer perfectly from my dv camcorder to the computer, but horrible quality from the computer to the camcorder? I was figuring i possibly had a defect firewire card, but its weird that theres only a problem when sending video back. So if this isnt possible, i know it is either the firewire cord or the camcorder.
thanks

Theoretically, it's not possible. Are you having the same problem when literaly just copying the video from the camera and then copying it back? Are you editing this video before sending it back? If so, what editing application are you using? Also, what format are you "exporting" to?

Another thing, what brand firewire card are you using?

i have edited and tried to send back, and tried to send back without editing. same problem. I have been using premiere to send the video to the camcorder. Is there a little program that will send video to a camcorder? I am exporting in ntcs not pal(if thats what u meant) and in dv avi.

If it works one way then it's not a hardware problem. It sounds like your have a setting wrong in permiere or your using compression or something.

Yea, record to a device and you can record to the camera. Thats why it's useful when people take old footage and record it to convert to DV.

You're not using any codecs on it are you? I'm not an expert in this field by any means, but I was under the impression that a DV didn't compress video at all.. didn't use any codecs.. so if you used something in premiere maybe that would compress it a bit or something?

I have firewire and DV. You must either be using compression or your machine is not able to keep up with the data rate.

nope, no compression, and my comp def can handle it, (works fine on my buds 600mhz).
i have a feeling its the ASUS video capture driver. what the hell can i do to replace that driver with some other driver?
