I think you're mixing up some things here. Firewire doesn't really have anything to do with DVI, per se, unless you're just using DVI as an abbreviation for "digital video in" and not talking about an actual DVI connector (the one used on video cards supporting flat panel displays). Firewire is used on many DV devices, like digital camcorders, but like Bangsailio said, it isn't strictly for video. Basically, if you've got a DV Camcorder, get a cheap Firewire card and you're set. If you've got an analog video source (camcorder, VCR, etc.), you can either get an all-in-one solution like ATI's All-in-Wonder series, or you can get a separate Video capture card like Pinnacle's DCxxx series.
