So what's the general consensus around here? AVG for AV & Zone Alarm for Firewall?
Or are some jumping on the BitDefender bandwagon? Is their free v.7 Free Edition any different than one that isn't free?

The consensus is probably that you won't find a consensus. I use Norton Internet Security for both my anti-virus and firewall software. I've never had a problem and NIS serves me well. Others seem to have bad luck and don't like Norton. I see many people recommend AVG and others, and I note that AVG seems to get pretty good reviews as well. ZoneAlarm is a great little firewall. personally, I say pick something, just about anything is better than nothing as far as AV software goes. Just keep it updated.

Well, you're right about the antivirus programs. Ask a dozen people & i'll probably get at least a half-dozen different replies. :)
Anyone have any ideas as to the firewall in BitDefender Pro 7.2? Is it a capable firewall?

Firewall wise ZoneAlarm is excellent and one of the most popular around here, however I really like the free version of Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5 you can download it from here .

Just try them both and see which one you prefer, that`s always the case with AV and Firewall software.

You may still be able to get EZtrust AV + Firewall with updates free for a year. I took advantage of the offer a few months and really like the AV application. It takes minimal resources and they have very frequent updates.

I don't use the Firewall, but I think it may be a version of ZoneAlarm.

Use a hardware soho router (Linksys, D-Link) and NAV 2004 if you want to spend a little cash for quality products. For free software it seems like AVG and Zonealarm are the crowd favorites.

Those can't protect you from malicious programs on your machine calling home, sadly there's a lot of those on Windows these days.

I read alot of bad things about AVG. There is a site to test what kind of percentage your AV can detect and AVG was one of the lowest. I had AVG, uninstalled it after reading about it being so terrible. Now i dont know what to use.

One of the main reasons I like AVG is because it has a small memory foot print.
