Firewall vs any spy/remote programs

Hello I have ultraVNC installed on a pc. I don't know if someone is spying or monitoring the computer so I have decided to close it and turned on the firewall and set it to Block all incoming connections, including in the list of allowed programs. Both Home or work (private) and Public network location settings.

So am I safe from being monitored???

:colbert:

so that means I'm still not free and still not secure and the pc can still be monitored by others?

>>The spy/monitoring program is legal btw.

Which computer are your concerned about, your computer or the one you are connecting to? And as a follow-up, is there anyone in particular you are suspicious of doing the monitoring?

Im concerned about my computer but its not mine really... What i want is that i dont want someone track what im doing. so i turn on firewall blocking all incoming connections.

I have excellent protection, carefully configured, Do Not track in Pale Moon; only use IXquick as search engine which does not track (the anti Google), am malware, virus, rootkit free (I scan often), but I never think I can not be tracked, I am on the net ongoing.

Apps update automatically as they are meant to, etc.

Anyone connected to the net can be tracked.

If you connect to the internet, every action you take, every website you visit can be logged. Some don't know this.

If you able to access the Internet, you are not blocking all incoming (or outgoing) connections. There are steps you can take, as Virgorising stated, to stay a little safer.

http://www.sandboxie.com/ is another good one.

The computer I've been using is a server in our company. It has ultraVNC on it. I don't want any incoming connection to view this PC through ultravnc or other remote software, so i set the firewall. Was that enough?

What are you doing on a server that you don't want anyone else to see? If you need to use VNC for work purposes to access the machine, just make sure it has a good password, and don't forward ports to it from the Internet unless that is also required for work purposes. If you don't use VNC, then remove it.

But being paranoid about someone else seeing what you are doing with the server sounds like maybe someone else SHOULD be seeing what you are doing...

I'm just surfing the internet and I don't want anyone to see what I'm doing. That's all.

I still don't get any clear answers to my questions... Is the firewall enough?

Then why do you need a company server to do that?

Maybe the reason you think your question is not being answered is because perhaps it shouldn't. I think you got a pretty good answer already. (No)

Expended Answer: Do not use a server to surf the internet. The server and the software on it are too valuable for this. For example, my server at the house doesn't even have access to the internet. Local network connection only.

Who gave you access to the server? They should revoke it ASAP.

If you are not in a position to do the monitoring then act as if your are being monitored at all times. AKA don't do stupid shit at work if you're not in charge of the network.

I'm in a position of accessing the server. I'm the one in charge. It's just boring!!!! to work hard 7 days a week 12 hours per day... That's why I use it. So????

Ok so it's even worse. Someone put you in charge of IT and you're not sure if people can see what you get up to? That means you have no clue about security or everyone there has domain admin accounts.

Is this a computer help or what??? Just answer my question. No clear answer? Then your nonsense to me. Firewall enough?

Yes turn that firewall on. No one will be able to see what you're doing. Especially via an IP KVM, or DRAC. Yup, just keep surfing porn, torrenting, or whatever you're up to. It's completely untraceable now. :whiste:

Helllllowwwwww? He was being SARCASTIC.

It's a common defense against FRUSTRATION.

Regard the chosen eye rolling, whistling smilie.

You are demanding we give you some solution which DOES NOT EXIST....given the reality of the net and technology.

You're bored, so you're surfing the internet at work... on a company server?

And people wonder why there's a massive data breach in the news on a weekly basis. At *best* you're asking to get yourself fired (and rightfully so). At worst, that server could be compromised in a way big enough to put the entire company out of business.

But hey, as long as you're not bored at work, right?
