Firewall for dialup

I'm looking to add some protection for a family member's computer. They use a dial-up connection and Windows XP. They are pretty computer illiterate and I want to install something that doesn't require a lot of upkeep/tweaking.

1. What are recommendations for a good firewall?

2. Should I just install Service Pack 2?

3. Is a firewall even necessary for dial-up?

Yes, I managed to get blaster on dialup last yr.

i spent two hours yesterday fixing my uncles PC that go pwned on his dialup connection because of no firewall

Since I won't have access to this computer except every few months (out-of-state), I need a firewall that is as idiot proof as possible. Looking at Kerio right now. Thoughts?
