i currently have a linksys box and want to ditch it for a dedicated machine to do firewall/routing. After doing some hunting i came across the Linux Router Project and i think that this would serve my needs. My only problem is there are many different builds and i am having a tough time deciding which one to use. i need it to allow easy setup, support IP masqurading, Dynamicly assigned IP address and support me running an FTP server. Any help would be great

Try Freesco too... it is something very similar to Linux Router project, but simpler to configure and install...

Are you sure? cuz when I configured freesco for my connection it asks me if I want to enable DHCP for my network card...

also alternatives to freesco include Linux Router and Coyote Linux

as far as thier web site implies you can serve other computers inside your network with dhcp addressing but cannot recieve an ip address from your isp frmo a dhcp server... at least that is what i gathered from thier website

The documentation is very spotty and even the FREESCO people admit to that. Yes you can grab a dynamic IP. I'm running FREESCO right now on a Pentium Pro 200 w/ 24MB EDO RAM, 3.5" floppy, and 512k ISA video (used once).

Some ISPs running new software and hardware may require a little to get your box running. My cable only assigns dynamic IPs and i'm running just fine after one patch.
