Firewall and ICQ

Does anyone know how to make ICQ work with a firewall? I am using a D-Link 713P gateway with a built-in firewall and can't make it work at all. It seems like messaging works, but I can't chat at all. The firewall is a pretty basic one and doesn't have a lot of features, so I'm not sure I can do all the things I need to do to make it work. Thanks.
