Firemen vs. Police (money)

dawks

Diamond Member
Who makes more? or is there much of a difference? Since I cant find sh!t for work without even 1 year experience in the computer field (how does one get experience if no one will hire).. Im considering switching over to one of the above two protection services..

So where would I make a little more $$, and which could potentially make more $$. If theres not much of a difference (>$5,000year) then I'd lean towards Firefighting.. I feel like I'd enjoy the physical end of it a little more..

Opinions.. Suggestions.. 😀

Edit: Whats that website that lists how much people typically make doing various jobs in different locations?

You shouldn't be either if you are concerned about the money, quite honestly. I hope you aren't planning on becoming either just because you can't find any other work...

Edit:

If you are actually interested in going into either field, you need to make money one of the last things you look at. If it comes down to it and you have no reason to join on over the other, that's when money may come into play. You need to consider things like how much you would enjoy it, personal dangers, stress, respect, lifestyle changes, etc.

Edit 2:

I work and train with both police and firefighters, so I can tell you some of the pros/cons of each job, along with the type of jobs they are.

If you are going into either of those professions for the money, you are choosing to go into two of the wrong professions.

To "make" it in either profession; you'd have to be qualified. This isn't some fast food restaurent where you sign an application and start working. To be in the Police force you'd have to committ to cadet school or whatever they call it. Takes another few years to learn all the techniques and procedures. I've no idea about being a firemen.

Yes I completely expect to be making well over $100,000 year. How far off am I?

I mean, I should be making more then I am as an MCSE, not?? ($0)

Go to a city where the fireman and police job is handeled by the public saftey department, in these cities for 6months their cops, then 6months as firemen 🙂 Thats how it is here in sunnyvale, california....seems like a cool thing. The police always say as firemen they get thankyou letters and cookies, and as cops they get bitched at.

They really aren't about the money. Maybe you'd be more interested in administrative positions in either field.

I debated for a minute, but I think he's being sarcastic.

Edit: OOOHHHHH... you're in Canada.. That's about $70,000 US/year, which is still REALLY high for either of those professions. At least in the States, starting pay is around $30-40k/ year. (40-60k CAD)

I don't think you'd quite make 100k canuck bucks but starting salary probably isn't too much less.

I suggest talking to some PDs about going on some ride alongs to see if law inforcement is something that interests you.

Based on what I've heard from friends who were fire fighters it is not easy to get a decent paying job in a fire department. At least in our area there is a lot of competition for those jobs.

I frequent officer.com to get into the heads of law enforcement officers.

sarcasm dumbasses 😛

I dont need to hear "u should be looking there if your in it for the money" thx. 🙂

But you really shouldn't.. we're trying to help you to not make a decision like this based on the least important aspect of it.

100K is nothing considering the kick backs and hush hush factors that go along with being a cop.

What? Aren't they all corrupted?

but it is the truth. I've seen guys that go into law enforcment because they need a job, and they end up hating it. It wastes a lot of the community's resources and can be dangerous to anyone that has to partner with someone that is only in it because the needed the job/ money.
