I have an uncle and aunt who are continuously corrupting IE files and getting bad things. Do you think it would be possible to install FireFox and have them learn it in almost no time? (my uncle is a Mac person, first PC he's ever had)

Well, you can run both Firefox and IE at the same time so it's easy to gradually become acustomed to the Firefox interface. Firefox if pretty simplistic and most of the actions are similar/the same as IE. One nice option they may want to get used to is tab browsing. It's much like having multiple IE browser windows open, but you're surfing in sub-browers instead. It's one of my favorite features of Firefox.

Just getting used to the appearance of Firefox will be the biggest challenge in my opinion. It's easy to navigate through and I don't see your family having any problems picking it up really quickly. I'd just have them use both Firefox and IE until they're comfortable enough with FF to use it as their primary browser.

set FF as the default browser, then go into the add/remove windows components and remove all the shortcuts to IE using its uninstall IE option. It is definatly the best browser, security wise, for those who do not know to click "no" on the ActiveX install boxes.

Chances are they will not like the way firefox will not open their old "favorites" from the start menu.

Mozilla would be more similar to IE to them methinks.

How does one "learn" firefox? You click on links and it goes to pages, same as any other web browser.

That's true except that it won't open favorites from the Start menu, only Mozilla does that (between these two).

And the problem here, as I read it, is that these are some old folks who are not tech savvy and may be turned off by any changes.

my wife took to FF straight away as well after i made sure all the buttons she uses were there on the toolbar
you could always install the IE theme to FF to make them really feel at home

I don't get it. It should prompt to import your existing IE favorites, into FF/Mozilla's bookmarks.

Yes, it does that, but it does not open the Favorites from the Start menu(nor the quick launch without special manipulation), even if FF is the default browser. Try it.

That was a major annoyance to me. Was enough to make me prefer Mozilla instead. And now that I have SP2 I'm back to IE.

i've never ever opened a Favorite / Bookmark from the Start Menu. I don't know anyone who does. This is a minor annoyance that MS shoves down peoples throat to use the Start Menu.

Well know you know someone who does, and as I said, it was a major annoyance for me that FF couldn't do that.
For me, it's easier to access my Favs from the start menu (as well as quick Launch) rather than opening browser first at home page and navigating from there.
