Firefox won't download anything

I download say an image file to my desktop, yet it never shows up. Then I open IE or Opera, do the same thing, and it works.

FF has been doing this to me for about 2 weeks - any idea what the problem is? I might just end up switching to Opera, especially if I can import my FF favorites, that's how much it is annoying me.

 
I'd suggest doing a search to see if it's saving the file somewhere else. Or try saving to an actual folder, not the desktop. Just my 2¢
 
it could be saving it to another location than the desktop. when the download window appears see at the bottom of it the location it is downloading to
 
Just fyi, for years I've used an old version of winget with FF with good results (later versions required a license and I was too cheap hehe). They now have updated it and have switched the license to freeware.

http://www.indentix.com/WinGet/Default.aspx is the site, but I haven't tried this latest version yet. Supposedly it works within Vista now as well.

 
Has anyone elses Firefox been using a LOT more memory lately?

Maybe its just after I installed Fast Dial and AdBlock Plus but even with one tab open I'm over 100mb?!
