Ok, I've got absolutly no idea what's going on..

Troubleshooting starter

  1. Overview of the problem
Whenever I try to start Firefox 3.5.3 in Win7 RTM I get a nice BSOD with BAD_POOL_HEADER.

  2. Full description of the problem and symptoms
The actual error description from windows:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48
    Locale ID: 3079

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 19
    BCP1: 0000000000000003
    BCP2: FFFFF880023C61E0
    BCP3: FFFFF88073666E74
    BCP4: FFFFF880FFFF0000
    OS Version: 6_1_7600
    Service Pack: 0_0

  3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
Yep worked great untill now, the only thing I changed before was, that I installed Secunia PSI (already deinstalled it - doesn't help) and deinstalled Spybot. No trojans or other stuff is found on the machine..

  4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
Yep, every time I start FF in the first 3 seconds (I get to see the start page before it happens) :/

  5. I already tried these steps:
Well I already tried the usual stuff, i.e. reinstalling, deleting the profile, trying an older version (3.0.14).
The PC is prime stable, no memory errors are found and everything else (including IE 8) works as it should. Dualbooting into XP and FF works without any problems.
    Current drivers are installed..

  6. My software:

    • Win7 RTM
      Avira AntiVir
windows intern firewall and hardware firewall

  7. My hardware

    • e8400 - already changed everything to standard settings
      MSI P45 Neo3 FR
      Ati Radeon 4870
      MDT DDR2-800 RAM (1.8V)
      be-quiet 550W
Win7 is installed on a Intel X25 G2 using the windows ahci drivers..

If you haven't already tried these, you might try

1) running FireFox in its own "Safe Mode" using the shortcut from Start > All Programs > Mozilla > etc etc, to see if it behaves that way. If so, maybe there's a messed-up extension/plug-in causing it.

2) try a System Restore to take Windows back to before the problem started happening.

Any good?

Writing this using FF and Win7 Ultimate 64bit RTM, running Spybot and Avast av

Never had a problem with FF and Win7 including 32 and 64bit RC1, though all have used AMD cpus (X2-4600, X2-5000BE, Kuma 7750, Rigor 250, and Callisto 550).

FF and Win7 do not seem to have any inherent problems, but I have no idea where the problem comes from.

I just bit the bullet and used my image (sledgehammer approach~~) - hopefully the problem won't appear again..
