firefox vs. opera?

Firefox unlike a lot of other alternate browsers isnt a huge shock coming from years of IE. I have been using Firefox for about a month and LOVE it. I really think its better than Opera.

I switched to Firefox recently. It's great once you get it configured with all of your extensions. Out of the box it's unimpressive. I like it better than Opera now, but I'm still waiting for a "magic wand" type feature.
Anubis, does Opera now have an Adblock equivalent? That's a HUGE plus for Firefox.

im sure there is a plugin that will do it, i never looked my firewall does that
EDIT: i just looked no there isnt, peopel over on the opera forums want it added for opera 8 or sooner if possiable, if you search there are ways to do it, its just not as easy as "click to enable addblock" you have to edit a INI file but thats not hard, there are also tons of free stand alone programs that will do it for all browsers

No reason to pay for a browser when there are plenty of perfectly good solutions out there.

opera is for n00bs...Ive used both...Firefox is beter!! specially with those plugins and more wider browser support (more sites work on firefox than opera)
One of the nice things I like about Firefox is that it's almost infinately customizable as long as you know how. You can create your own themes, modify how buttons look, create your own extensions and such. A lot of a extensions are just tweaks some guy did to his configuration file and then thought it was cool enough to share with others.
Then again a lot of extensions drasticly change/add functionality that is usefull for things for various purposes. For instance there are developer aids for webmasters to check syntax and proper form that you can add into firefox.
One big thing I don't understand to much about is CSS style sheets. But you know how to hack around that stuff both you can create style sheets to override defaults on webpages, and even change how the UI itself looks and feels.
The more you know the more you can hack at it and modify it, even all the way down to the source code itself if your so inclined and have the skill. They try to make it relatively easy and the sky is the limit. (after all this is a browser for hackers to get a browser as close to their ideals as possible (meaning dedicated programmers)).
It's a complete 180 from what most people are familar with from using MS products forever and ever.

Firefox is for people who realize spending money on a web browser (especially a severly unextensible one) is stupid. =)
IE may be old, but it hasn't been 'good' since NS47 was the only alternative. I use Galeon (a Linux mozilla based browser) and I can't even think of any sites that display incorrectly and usually when they do it's only a little overlapping text which is ugly, but the site still works.

myIE2 > firefox its faster, gestures and tabs work better as well, its also freen and has adblock
Opera > all so what it costs 20$ that does not change the fact that its better, its faster more stable and has more features then anything else, hogls less memory then firefox, mouse gestures and tabs work to perfection, anyone that says you cant customize it is a moron and has not looked at the opera forum on how to do it, it does not have nice 1 click adblock on BUT you can simply edit a INI or CSS file and have it be more powerfull then adblock

33% of vunerabilities are not patched, of those some are fixed by installing WinXP SP2, and disabling activeX, however if your not using WinXP then for some your just SOL. (at this time of writing dec/4/04)
Firefox 1.0, vunerabilities.
Currently no known vunerabilities. Although I'd bet that some exist so it's still important to keep up to date.
Opera 7.x vunerabilities.
Currently a few known vunerabilities, but only one is unpatched and that's not realy a software bug so much as one of the bad aspects of having tabs that Opera hasn't worked around yet. Not a big deal, just becarefull which page those pop-ups originate from sometimes. (like if your signing on at a bank or whatever)

While I'll agree that IE doesn't render some CSS items properly, most sites on the Internet are geared towards IE and have made hack fixes to have IE display it the way they want it to, making it possible that Firefox won't render it properly.
That's why IE should die a quick and painless depth.
IE is holding up progress, we are still using the same crap that was accepted back in 1995 and even then IE still doesn't do some things correctly. It's PNG support is still crap, for instance. And that's a established web standard image format for several years now.
Standards are their for a reason. It's to make developer's and user's lives easier. It shouldn't matter what browser a user is using, but it does. Why? Because MS is lazy and they don't care about standards or making sure that their software works with anything other then their own products and standards.
IE is crap. It doesn't support standards and its a security hazard to anybody that is unfortunate enough to use it. Do anything and everything to get people to stop using such inferior and obviously flawed software.
I want the WWW to evolve past 1997. It would be better for everybody involved. Anything, Opera, Konquerer, Mozilla, Firefox, Safari, anything. Anything other then internet explorer.
