I got tired of all of my (numerous) extensions breaking whenever I upgraded browsers, so I am doing it all manually now. Now, when I upgrade, I get a couple versions prior to the current one, so I can be sure my add-ons and plug-ins all work properly.

So right now I am running FF34, and they are on FF39. I was thinking about upgrading to FF38, since it has been out since May/June, and plug-in folks have had a couple of months to upgrade themselves.

Problem is, I can't figure out which version to use!! They all have weird numbers and suffixes with bizarre dates, etc.

Like this: (the complete list is here)

Those are all various branches, and revisions. I would pick 38.1esr. That's an extended support release, and should be compatible with everything from the 38* version. Pick that, pick your language, pick your system, and you should end up with a downloadable executable.

Thanks!! :)

Edit
Should I choose the upgrade, or the full version? The full version is an executable, but the update version is an .asc or .mar file??

Upgrade

Full Version

I've never used a .mar file. Here's documentation on how to use it...

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Software_Update:Manually_Installing_a_MAR_file

What /I/ would do, is use the full installer, and it should upgrade your existing install while keeping your setup relatively intact. Keep in mind I don't use Windows, so if the above advice doesn't work, you get to keep all the pieces :^P I think it should work though.
That's what I'll do then. I'll report back any issues. Thanks again. :)
