Firefox Update

So Firefox told me that it had downloaded and installed a new update for me, and now I can only look at things I have bookmarked one time.

After that, whenever I click on my bookmark folder, nothing happens.

Anyone else have this problem? I have it on both my computers, and am afraid to update the third.

wow. well anyway... all the things i liked about going from ie to ff are 100x better going from ff to opera. all the nifty gadgets and serttings and stuff are integrated right into the program. no need to rely on some mystery plugin makes it that much more secure too. plugins are available of course, but i haven't needed any. i used plugins galore with ff, some good some not good.

I have all the updates and am not having any problems. You might try downloading the latest versioni from Firefox's home page, assuming you have it bookmarked.

Does Opera have a little Bookmarks Toolbar like FireFox? IE7 has one, "Links" but I can't put folders of links on it.

I like the functionality of FF, but its bugginess is really pissing me off.

Strange. Do you have anything like CCleaner? Maybe it is deleting the wrong stuff. I recommend a clean reinstall of it and seeing if the problem replicates itself.

I find it funny that there are guys that instantly suggest Opera. It reminds me of every Windows discussion when someone complains of a bug or "Genuine Advantage" there's ALWAYS a guy suggesting Linux. It's not that I hate Linux or Opera, it's quite the opposite, but it's just humorous.

Opera has everything, and you can set it up any way you like. And it all works.

One more vote for Opera. I only use FF as a backup.

A backup? If Opera works so well, why do you need a backup?
I have never found any browser that works perfectly on 100% of websites...that includes FF and IE. However, I rarely find it necessary to use FF. I also keep IE as a backup...primarily for Windows Update.

the only reason for a backup browser is some websites are designed from the beginning to favor one browser over another, usually IE. seekermeister, i'm kinda surprised you use ff as a backup, i've had 99% compatibility with opera and way way less with ff.

edit: doh i should type faster

hmm... so not many people answered my question...

I guess I am one of the few/possibly the only one with this problem?

and I already knew about opera, and prefer(ed) firefox to it, but 2.0 was already giving me problems, so I was optimistic with the update, but that just made things worse.

Try this:

1) uninstall FireFox

2) back up your bookmarks file and then delete these directories:
C:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Application Data\Mozilla
C:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla

3) install FF 2.0.0.1 and put your bookmarks file back

4) ??

5) Profit! :D

Any good?

sorry for not answering the ff question. export all bookmarks to a safe place, uninstall ff, then delete the folder in program files. try ccleaner for good measure.

The only reason that most people prefer FF over Opera, is because they don't use it long enough to understand the myriads of fashions in which it can be customized. Anything that FF can do, Opera does better.

I stopped using regular bookmarks when I found google bookmarks. :p

You shouldn't have to uninstall, just backup your bookmarks and delete the profile. Then put your bookmarks back later. That seems to solve 90% of the FF issues people post.

I got Opera up and running and pretty much the way I want it. I got my Personal Toolbar all loaded up. In fact I am posting using Opera now.

Quick question. Is it possible to be able to right-click on an item on the Personal Toolbar and select "open link in new tab." It's not an option of course, by default. If so, how do I add that option?

I've been away from the Opera forum for a long time, so I'm not up on all possible mods. You can do what you want from the Bookmarks button in the Hotlist, but there are alot of other mods available. Try the Opera forum, or you might find what you want here:

http://operawiki.info/Opera

There are alot of other Opera links that you can Google for.

Nothing seems to be working. Looks like I will just stick with Opera for awhile.

The one thing that I really like about Firefox over other browsers was that it put your bookmarks in nice, neat folders right underneath the adddress bar. That way you could just click the folder and select the bookmark.

On every other browser I have used, I find that you have to go through more menus to get to your bookmarks.

Is there a way to get Opera to do what I just described about Firefox?

Thanks for everyones help already, and thanks in advance for any advice about this.

Sure, just go to Bookmarks>Manage Bookmarks and right click any folder or bookmark, and select Properties. For folders, you will find a box to check to have it appear on the personal bar. For a bookmark you will find two boxes, one like for folders, and another to have it appear in the Hotlist. If you use nested folders, you can have unlimited access to all of your bookmarks.
