FireFox starting to suck

FireFox is going S-L-O-W and refusing to load images. I know my internet is fine, because M$ IE6 works just fine. What gives?

nightlies have their own problems. don't blame the stable 0.8 with the nightlies .. you'll confuse the noobs.

I think he's saying the problem developed yesterday.
Maybe it's a problem with the cache. Have you tried clearing that out?

yeah, the first thing I tried was clearing the cache. Still refuses to load any pics, and often just freezes. Yes, I was saying the problem started yesterday (now the day before yesterday, as the passage of time dictates). My opinion has now started to wane on FireFox. This is annoying.

I've been running the same build of FireFox... no problems whatsoever 🙁 my guess is that it's something unique to you.

Did you install Tabbrowser Extensions or AdBlock recently? I find TBE eats up memory and AdBlock slows page rendering to some degree.

If you are using developement versions, nightly builds? Bad things are suppose to happen.

I mean that if your using the nightly build or testing version (instead of just the regular 0.8 version that every else is using) you have to expect things to go wrong. It's just untested code, and your now a tester.

If that's the case you should learn howto create a informative bug report and send that in so the developers can know that something isn't working correctly.

Thanks, good to know you aren't having any troubles. Unfortunately, my computer doesn't seem to be responding to "But his is running fine."

I am not using a nightly build, I'm using the regular .8 everyone else is using. Maybe I'll just try a reinstall. This is the first annoying/bad thing thats happened to me since using it. Anyone have an idea/experienced similar probs? Its getting frustrating to have to use IE again.

Kind of off topic, but do you think Firefox will always stay pretty clean, or will it end up being like other software programs and turn into a big piece of bloatware. Eventually it will get to the point they can't really take it any further without adding useless features to it to make it 'better'.

They don't need to sell it to anyone now do they? Of course it can stay very clean.

That's the point of Firefox is to avoid that. Mozilla was designed for pretty much the express purpose of being bloatware, other browsers picked what parts they liked from mozilla and created fast small browsers with good user interfaces. Check out Epiphany and Galeon for 2 good examples. Mozilla was starting to get a bit TOO bloated, so their in the proccess of splitting up the different functions. In regular bloated mozilla you have a browser + news client + a mail client and who knows what else. Firebird is just a browser.

I know what you mean.

If you have any extensions installed try to uninstall them. Some of them aren't too hot.

Sounds like something corrupted, maybe delete the old binaries and reinstall it. See if that helps, but if this happened due to corruption something else in your computer has caused it, like maybe the filing system.

If that doesn't work find your user settings and delete them, maybe a option got fouled up and is beserking your setup. look here for the respective locatations of your user settings.

Maybe try deleting the user settings first. Any issues I've ever had have been fixed with that. If you have bookmarks you can find the file were they are located (mine are in a text file called, ironicly, bookmarks.html Hopefully yours will be the same.) and copy it and put it back once firebird has regenerated it's user config next time you use it.

Also be sure to check out the forums at mozillazine There you can find out if anybody has similar issues, usually there will be someone. Do a search thru it.

Hope you find out what went wrong!

ROFL! a very polite "thanks for nothing"

I have had some trouble with Firefox lock-ups also, next time one happens I will drop off a report here.

Stick it out with IE6. If it works great why change? I used Mozilla and Netscape for like a day but they are toooooo slow on some web pages. Try downloading a skin for mozilla at webdev and it will take all day. Plus you cant even view some sites correctly and some sites you cant use at all, like WINDOWS UPDATE. I want a hassle free computer, not a pain in the ass one which is what non-IE browsers are.

Personally, I have this thing where I just hate people/things that are entirely money-driven, which is the way I feel Microsoft is/acts. So I try to support others as much as possible. If IE6 was vastly superior, I would use IE6, but it isn't. I don't use Outlook Express because many virii prey on the weaknesses of it. I don't care if they make it prettier, there are just so many more attacks on it, and I like not having to worry about it as much.

On a brighter note, the ol' 'Fox is back up and running. I removed themes I wasn't using, and now it works fine. Crazy how that works. Hopefully won't encounter a similarly baffling problem later on. Thanks for all your guys' help! I hope anyone else having problems can get them solved by this thread as well.

It depends entirely on how many variables you put in. If you don't notice anything, keep it. 🙂
