Firefox showing all passwords

One thing I hate about Firefox is that it lists the website, username and password in cleartext when you go to Tools -> Options -> Security -> Saved Passwords -> Show Passwords.

Why????

I just checked and yes it has the passwords stored there in a long list (the one's I had the username and password remember thing activated on). I guess FF keeps a neat record of the passwords there. The only way to prevent FF from showing the passwords will be to deactivate the username and password remember feature?

Or be careful of who you let on your computer.

Or use a master password. You just have to type it in every time you load Firefox at a password screen. Then you don't have to enter it again at any other password screens unless you close and load Firefox again.

Also use the Secure Login add-on and enable the java script protection. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4429
Just click the Key at a login prompt to login, much faster than typing your user name in.

Why can't it just have an option to shadow the passwords without using a master password?

It does have this option. It's the "hide password" button.

I assume what you are asking for is an option that hides the passwords but doesn't let them be shown again. But suppose someday you want to change it so that it does show the passwords. Changes that can't be undone generally aren't nice.

If you use the master password instead, you can still undo your change to hide the passwords, but nobody else can without the master password.

you can make profiles ....you can have your own profile with it passwords and a public profile for other's ..like family

Yeah, I guess having the 'master password' is the most viable option here.
