Actually, what I'm doing is making a second install of XP Pro on my main machine. My current XP Pro is ~ 2 years old and limping along in some respects and I figure it's well nigh time to do a fresh install on a partition that's been sitting there waiting for it. I just installed Firefox 3.0.8 and would like to import all the settings etc. from the Firefox in my other OS partition. I just backed up Bookmarks, but how do I back up the other stuff for import into my fresh Firefox install?

Ah, I guess I have to find this:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default

Then bring that info into my new install...

Found it in FF help.

Not sure how to go about it but guess I can muddle my way through the process.

There is an addon that will save everything for you. I can't remember what it is called but it saves nearly everything - preferences, layout, skins and stuff to a separate file. You can just install it on a fresh install and then restore all settings.

Edit: Called FEBE.

I just installed FEBE, configured it and did a backup. It's a little complex and I didn't always know what I was doing, but since I'm not wiping my current XP partition, I can do it over if I don't like the results.

The process of using FEBE is a bit cumbersome, at least the way I used it but it seems very effective. I was unclear how to go about things and some of the restore options weren't taken advantage of. Partly this is because of my unfamiliarity with some of the structure and features of Firefox. Anyway my impression is that most of what matters has been preserved in my newly install Firefox on my other XP Pro install partition. Bookmarks, passwords, add-ons, all that's there.
