I downloaded firefox 1.0 today to see what the hype is about. I do have one question for all you FF experts...

My school's webmail pops up in a seperate window and I cant seem to find an option to make it a tab in my main FF window. The link which opens the webmail window is javascript, so I cant just right click and 'Open Link in New Tab'. I'm looking for something along the lines of 'Make this window a tab in another window' or something :)

While I'm at it... is it possible to manually re-order the tabs? How about make multiple rows of tabs?

I know a while back I had an extension that did all sorts of crazy things with tabs like re-order them and so forth or label them certain colors. I don't remember if it had what you were looking for since there were so many options but you could try to look at the extensions to see if it's still there or ready for 1.0.

Enter "about:config" in the address bar, then:

Double click on browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs to set it to true

Then Tools -> Options -> Advanced will have a Tabbed browsing option.

Check "Force links that open new windows to open in" and select "a new tab"

Done.

How about going the other way?
Is there a way to make a tab open in a new window? (ie. useful if you have two webpages you want open at the same time.. )

The reason that option was disabled by default is that it introduced a variety of bugs, including some crashers.

Ah... the old trick.. disable functionality that has bugs in it rather than fixing the bugs.. gotta love it :->

Would you have preferred it if they had delayed the release a month or two to iron out the bugs in this one feature? That wouldn't have solved anything. This way, they get the product out the door, and can fix the bugs introduced later.

As long as we can patch version of FF now, since it's officially a "release quality" product, instead of needing to download and install a new version (with all the headaches that entails).. then I don't have a big problem with that.
