Hey Gang,

I've got a problem with FireFox that only seems to happen on Linux. I have autoscroll enabled for the middle mouse button (scroll wheel) and it works, but often if I don't push it "just so", I'll end up on some other page.... not a page from a link below the mouse, but usually a page that I've opened earlier during that same session. It does NOT happen on Windows boxen, only on Linux.

Any ideas?

The middle button pastes. If you paste an URL into an open tab/window (using that middle button) it will take you to that page. Maybe that's what is happening (happens to me all the time if I miss a link :p).

I appreciate the info, but this is IN the page. Ususally it goes something like this... I've clicked the middle button and am scrolling down the page reading...get done, maybe scroll up a little if there is something I want to double check and the hit the button again to stop auto scrolling...only it takes me to a different page! I wonder if what you are describing is what is happening only without me being directly on a tab or address bar. And strangely, it ONLY happens to me in Linux.

Yeah... just to see what would happen, after I posted (above) I sat on the page and just hit the middle button a few times. Then, suddenly I got a quick hourglass and was taken back to a NewEgg page I was at earlier today.

Strange!

Hmmmm.... doesn't happen if I keep the mouse TOTALLY still, only if I am moving the mouse when I click the middle botton...and even then not always. I haven't totally isolated when it is happening. I'm on a KDE desktop, but I don't know if that is a factor or not.

go to about:config in your URL bar
look for middlemouse.contentLoadURL set it to false

It's one of the most annoying thing about mozilla products on linux, but I guess enough people like it (probably because it was around before autoscroll) that they aren't willing to disable it by default. As n0cmonkey said, it's most annoying when you miss a link.

Yeah! That seems to be the ticket! How annoying.

I have to confess that your post made me feel like a retard at first... I was right clicking the URL bar (no "ABOUT" came up), I went to Help, and there was an "About" but is was about Mozilla FireFox. I stumbled around for a minute wondering whether I had somehow corrupted my FireFox, and then it occurred to me to TYPE about:config in the URL bar! DOH!.

Thanks to you both for your time, effort and help.

anywhere in the about:config to make the middle mouse click close a tab like it does in the windows version of firefox

also. I have a fonts issuse. The font either seems to be too small or too big. no happy medium like the default in windows...any solutions?

I'm in FireFox on Linux right now and if I middle click a tab it closes. Other than what was suggested above, I've changed nothing.

You guys now have me hooked on the middle click paste that I didn't even know existed! How much easier for posting on forums!

Thank!
