Wtf are they doing these last couple of builds with firefox? It doesn't matter if I have any addons, what connection I'm on, or which of my computers I'm using. For the last couple of months now it's been absolute garbage for me. The thing slogs through almost any site that has a lot of page content, it sucks RAM like a cheap hooker, and streaming video for almost ANY website is a nightmare. It plays choppy, freezes every few seconds, and just slogs through the thing. Again this is no matter WHAT internet connection I'm on, which of my computers I'm on, or if I even have any addons running.

Can someone recommend a better, quicker browser? I don't give a crap about addons really. Is Chrome any good?

Chrome and Opera are both excellent browsers. Opera with stock settings is much better than Chrome, but Chrome's use of plugins is a lot better.

Keep all 3 installed and switch between them to get a feel for things. You'll find the right one.

Since these web browsers are free.

Your best bet is to try all of them.

Simply download: Chrome (latest beta), Opera (latest beta) & Safari. Use them all and pick the one you like best.

That's the best way to find the best browser for you.

Let us know what you think of these browsers.....Also what system & net speed you have: www.speedtest.net

Haha. Firefox runs fine here and for plenty of others. There is nothing wrong with it.

Everyone has there good & bad opinions on browsers. Why one is better than the other.... Which is why I said. Instead of asking. Try em all. There free and just pick your favorite.

Plain and simple.

You always hear......Which is the fastest? Lightest on hardware? Secure? And such all the time.....

I agree with the OP. Firefox has been a pig lately. I've even gone so far as going back to IE (gasp!) and find it actually runs better than the current version of Firefox. On another note, I actually prefer the windows version of Safari over either one of them, but I don't use it due to lack of plugin support.

I don't much like chrome (the one key feature it misses is the ability to click any where in the main window and paste a url (this is under linux; not sure about the windows version).

Never used opera (well tried it once a long time ago and it had a problem; but I'm sure newer version don't have that specific issue). Rather happy with firefox 3.6

Firefox has its problems, and has had them for some time now. Why are people acting as if they see nothing wrong with it or as if it's just some illusion. People have been saying the same thing about Firefox for a long time, its slow and inefficient.. it really grinds my gears.

Do you really think countless thousands of people are all lying? This might seem a little crazy but bear with me. Maybe, just maybe do you think that perhaps they are not having any problems with Firefox?

Firefox is ok, but I do find it more bloated then when it first came out. It's sad, really. I use chrome at home now, but at work I use FF with IEtab since I like having tabbed browsing and lot of our stuff is IE only.

Wow...I use FF 3.6 w/ ad-block and a few other plug-ins and it is very fast for me. Since upgrading to 3.6 I have not had any flash video choppiness either. And this is with it running on three different systems...I get the same performance.
P4 w/ 2GB Ram
AMD X2 2.1Ghz w/ 4GB RAM
AMD X4 2.6Ghz w/ 6GB RAM

I have no problems at all with it and I often have up to 8 tabs open at a time.

First, let me say that there's no need to get worked up over another person's opinions on web browsers. It's a WEB BROWSER. What they use and what they don't use doesn't hurt you in any way.

With that said, here are my general thoughts:

Internet Explorer 8 - much better than previous versions (and that's not saying much...) but it feels a bit slow and the interface just sucks. I don't like the fact that somewhere around a tenth of the height of my screen is just dedicated to toolbars.

Firefox 3.6 - wonderful customization, but it would be better in my book if it didn't need add-ons to change some of the annoyances. Vanilla Firefox is somewhat slow, and Adblock makes it even worse for me (as the page loads initially with ads, then there's a slight delay, and then the ads disappear). Noscript is a great idea, but I don't feel like taking the time to build a whitelist. Firebug / FirePHP are wonderful tools and have made my life as a web programmer much easier. All in all, Firefox's strength isn't in the browser itself, it's in the community that creates great themes and add-ons to improve on the browser's downfalls and add great extra functionality.

Chrome 3 - the absolute best thing, to me, is the speed. I've read that others have problems with Chrome slowly loading pages, but for me it's significantly better than any other browser. Both my desktop and my laptop are running SSDs, so that may have something to do with it. The interface is also great - very simplistic, but functional and without extra frills. Tabs where the title bar "should be" to save space? Brilliant. Some pages do still fail to load properly in Chrome (Weather.com's 10 day forecast, for example), which sucks.

Opera - I haven't used it in years (and even then only for a short time) so I can't comment.

Safari for Windows - I used this for a very short period of time simply for testing. It was alright, but nothing spectacular. I hate how Apple tries to sneak in iTunes and Quicktime every chance they get, which really turned me off to all of their software (and even hardware). Maybe they've changed that since, but it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

My primary browser choice is Chrome. I use Firefox for productivity, and Internet Explorer only for compatibility testing.

Actually it kind of does. The less people the use a browser the less real-world testing it'll get which results in less sites caring about to support it.

Firefox 3.6Adblock makes it even worse for me (as the page loads initially with ads, then there's a slight delay, and then the ads disappear).

You sure you're using the normal Adblock extension? For me, Adblock's always completely prevented the ads from loading, which significantly speeds up most sites.

To the OP: I haven't had any problems with FF being slow on any of my computers (all using the latest version of the browser).

That's why the adblock for Chrome sucks. I couldn't care less about seeing ads, but I don't like them slowing browsing down. Chrome's adblock loads the stupid things anyway, and defeats my whole reason for using the extension. As was said. If you're getting that behavior in Firefox, you downloaded the wrong extension.
