I used MORE THAN ONE. I tried many. I used the ones suggested and ones not suggested. They all did it.

And the problem with that shit loading is that they can track what you do all over the internet and eventually link you to all kinds of shit. Distorting a lot of things.

You're doing it wrong.

Opera Fanboy here. Far superior to both of these products. As fast as Chrome and with 1000 times more built in features? Yes Please!

Also at the guy who said Opera doesn't have a working adblock extension. Opera has had built in adblock forever. You don't even need an extension. Just download Fanboys urlfilter.ini list here and save it in your Opera folder. When you use the Right Click -> Block Content way of blocking ads it ads them to your urlfilter.ini. This is just a prebuilt list similar to how Chrome and Firefox extensions work.

I just use this to kill ads and other pesky nonsense.

I just use DD-WRT to block ads, trackers, and malicious sites, for all browsers and computers on the local network. I've even modified it to also block web-based anonymous proxies and URL shorteners (blocked a fake Facebook login page just last night for the stepdaughter).

Does that script use a list similar to the lists that adblock uses?

Yes. This is the list, and info is here. The list is verified and updated frequently. You can use that hosts file on any computer, but you'll have to manually update it periodically, whereas the DD-WRT script automatically refreshes weekly.

OpenDNS or whatever works too. It doesn't require a modified router.

In most cases, yes. For those that you want to go through, you can do one of two things:

1) add the specific domains through your PC's hosts file (you'll need the ip for the domain)
2) manually specify any DNS server to bypass the router's DNS filtering

You can actually set that preference to 1000ms to get the Opera/Safari effect of the page loading in an instant. The rendering will be deferred one second so all the page elements appear to snap in at once.

All the speed advantages these browers have over one another are for the most part matters of perception.

Just updated my home PC to FF4 and I'm disappointed that they haven't resolved this:
firefox_password_dialog.png

If you secure your stored passwords with a "Master Password," you're frequently prompted to enter it. That doesn't bother me so much, except that the dialog seems to have been written by someone who doesn't speak ENGLISH. Anyway, I only want a master PW so someone can't go into the FF options and take a screenshot of all my important PWs. I really don't want to enter it all the time...why bother allowing it to store passwords at all?

The main reason I don't use Chrome entirely is an old Firefox plugin - that hasn't been supported for Firefox in years - called Sage-Too. It's an RSS feed reader that lets AdBlock block its ads. The developer went on an irrational rant about ad blocking a few years back and stopped development, but it still works so far (with quirks). I've tried other RSS readers but none come close to Sage-Too. If FF4 breaks it, I may have to rewrite it myself!

Other reasons I go with FF are FireBug (which is just better in FF than Chrome) and the simple fact that I think FF is less likely to spy on me than Chrome is.

Web Browser Grand Prix 3: IE9 Enters The Race

According to Tom's Hardware conclusion page IE9 pull slightly ahead, in front Opera, Chrome take up the middle just behind Opera, then FF, and Safari take up the last position.

<--- I just update to Opera 11.01 for Linux i386 and it is looking good. (Way snappier than Chromium).

LOL- here's a blurb from an article I wrote a few days ago at work:

Firefox is very popular with the “super-user” community. This is the group that can do anything you can think of on a computer, some things you can’t think of, and a few things you don’t want to think of. This enthusiast community often brags of the customizations they do with Firefox on technical forums whenever browsers are mentioned:

“I use Firefox, so I don’t have to see ads on websites!”
“I use Firefox and have an add-on that lets me transfer files automatically!”
“I use Firefox and it blocks any pop-ups and virus attacks!”
“I use Firefox and it saved the Earth from an asteroid impact!”

Interesting about the page loading. I didn't realize Firefox actually delay it. That makes a lot more sense now though.
