i only get them from 1 specific fantasy baseball site.... even when i look at pr0n and warez i dont get none!

I think it's through use of tiny Flash applets that have the ability to circumvent the typical DHTML/Javascript popup blocks. Firefox users can use FlashBlock to bring this to a crashing halt:

FlashBlock stops the Drudge popup ads nicely - if you install the plugin, take a look at Drudge's front page. At the top of the page, right under the flash banner ad is a tiny centred Flash applet. Gee, wonder what that's for?

lol i am just playing around...actually i realized the same also...they actually get "blocked" becuase the status bar shows up, but then they actually pop up with a blank screen...
