Firefox 33 Released

It's market share is falling because Google whores Chrome everywhere, and everyone uses Google. Firefox looking like Chrome isn't a plausible explanation for people switching to Chrome. Besides, it's still changeable. Their policies are more irritating than in the past, but they can be worked around. Here's my V34. Looks about the same as it always has...

Can I ask how you've managed to get a black theme here on the anandtech forums?
I absolutely HATE the current default black text on a blinding white background.

EDIT: Forget it, I installed Stylish and am good to go now.
Thanks for the pic though, before seeing that I had given up on a dark theme for these forums a long time ago.

You're not really away, so I wouldn't worry about it. Your browser is Firefox at it's core. Eventually gets most of the same core updates. Just changes cosmetics and other options around AFAIK.

Hey! Cept, when I switched to PM it truly was far lighter and faster than whichever build of FX I was running at the time. Ironically, Pale Moon Face is now trying to distance himself from the Mozilla platform in ways I think are already starting to bite him in the butt.🙄

i tried Pale Moon a couple of times this year but gave up because it didn't offer me anything that Mozilla Firefox didn't already give.

Whoops I just saw this thread, after posting mine about javascript on this version not rendering many pages fully. I've had to revert back and so far find 33 not useful for me.

After a couple of hours of hard work and coding (mostly CSS and XML), I finally updated from v.28 and... well, it's working how I want it to work, and pretty much how it was before.

- no moronic waste of space by putting the tabs on the titlebar
- no idiotic hiding of the tabs dropdown on the right side of the toolbar
- no pathetic sliding of the url whenever I go back a page (in history)
- two new tab buttons (for the win!), as it should be, with intuitive behavior (even though I very rarely use them, because they are totally pointless anyway - ALT+ENTER FTW)
- a FUZZING rss button at the end of the locationbar
- a nice and tall status bar for usability and the links and loading status appearing there and not over web content like a retard
- signature keyhole arrow buttons
- a Firefox button without rounded corners to fit my W7 theme without rounded corners

I do have to say Classic Theme Restorer isn't perfect, and the Firefox menu doesn't work exactly like the old one did. Much disappoint, if I'm honest, but it's better than the stupid baby bib with all the buttons made for blind people.

This is the first time that an update actually bring something different to the table, now there is an Eraser tool which is supposed to clean your tracks, you will see it as soon as you install the update! Rarely has a small incremental update brought a new feature so that's nice to see

euballot refers to the message that Windows users in the EU see in response to a ruling that MS had to provide people with a choice of browser when they first use Windows.

If you installed FF through that ballot, then your copy of FF is branded with that. It doesn't make any difference otherwise, probably just a method that Mozilla hoped would show up in browser share stats.

33.1 now has ads on the new tab page. 🙁

Darn, I can't see that. I guess ABP is working, lol. It is a free browser, offers much more than IE, and doesn't have the "spying" association that Google does. So I am ok with that.

Edit: I also don't see a difference between Classic and Enhanced on this page. Anyone else?

I believe if you change the tabs page to classic or blank then you won't see any of the ads (which I'm pretty sure only appear on new installations anyway)

Hi guys. A long time ago i move from Firefox to Chrome because it was giving me alot of problems. But recently i heard some positive feedback from some Firefox users. Can you tell me whats the situation and why according to you firefox is better than chrome ?

Firefox is better because it's libre software, and isn't made by an ad company. Oh, and it's easier to customize.

Personal preference. I have never had issues with FF (been with it since the beginning), and whenever I do try Chrome, I am sick of it within a couple days.

that is my experience as well because i have been using firefox since forever is seems because it has been so reliable. i do try other browsers as well like chrome and opera but never last long with them for one reason or another but firefox is never removed.

I do have a FF install without Ablock and noticed that I can just delete the ads and they haven't come back yet, but maybe it is too soon to tell.

Customisation.

I have cookie management set to ditch all cookies at the end of a session except those from domains I've whitelisted.

I can customise FF's interface (more difficult these days but still possible through add-ons) to include the title bar (and therefore full title tag), as well as a few other facets the way I want them.

Firefox never had any problems in a fresh installation (not unless your computer is compromised with crappy plugins).

My suggestion when you have any problem with Firefox, is to first disable all add-ons (that's extensions - like adblock plus -, plugins - like java - and themes) and see if the problem persists. If it does. You may need to create a brand new Firefox profile.
