firefox 3.6 users beware - you will be auto upgraded to version 12

Isnt it lovely when they try to force crap on people??

I have heard v12 is not nearly as good as 3.6 (My favourite FF version is 1.5 (Looks the nicest in my opinion, goes downhill after the 1.5 series))

Software can't be supported with bugfixes forever. And with something like a web browser that's free, there's little reason to be on an old version, especially one that's 29 months old at this point.

I remember when I upgraded my friend from FF 3.6x, to something like 6.x or around there, and everything was MUCH SLOWER. Page loads, scrolling, etc.

I've never seen upgrades being slower than older versions, and I have no idea which people are saying 3.6 is better than 12. Under the hood, the latest versions are FAR superior, unless they are talking about how it looks.

It sounds like they're not going to force the upgrade on people who have automatic updating turned off... but why don't I trust them?

Oh, maybe because they disabled the Java plugins on a ton of my kiosk systems a few weeks ago without any warning, even though I had plugin checking turned off. Bastards.

My kiosks only point to a private internal web site, so that Java update was completely pointless for these systems. But the mighty Mozilla and their infinite arrogance thought otherwise.

I learned my lesson... the next kiosk system I do will be using Chrome. When you turn off features in Chrome, they STAY turned off.

Mozilla has always thumbed their nose up at Embedded and Corporate desktop installs.

They have a mantra of "Upgrade! Upgrade! Always Upgrade".

Which really takes the wind out of the IT dept's sails, when they spend six months validating a version of the browser, and the current-release version is six version numbers higher. Worse if those browsers update themselves automagically, and some critical corporate web app breaks.

And here is the reason 1/3 of firefox users are exploitable.
