In general what do people think about
(A)
installing new revisions over the old,
vs.
(B)
uninstall old,
manually clean out the remnants squirreled away in \Documents and Settings\[profile name]\Application Data\Mozilla, (WinXP)
and in
\Documents and Settings\[profile name]\Local Settings\Mozilla
and install new version?
Anybody think there's a difference in the result?
I'm always uneasy about installing new on top of old, but that's just me.

Firefox hangs while trying to load search results or item pages and all other tabs (non-ebay) other sites stop loading. The other sites would otherwise load normally without ebay being open. While Firefox is locked I can switch to IE or Opera and they both load ebay and searches normally, while FF is still stuck. The same thing happens in safe mode.
Even without the regular ebay hang ups, I'll have 4 or 5 tabs open and they all stop loading every once in a while, so I've gotten into the habit of closing and restarting FF when that happens.
There has been ongoing discussion of this on Mozilla forums. There's a list of possible fixes to try, but they seem to be hit and miss.

I've always installed over the old version. I think I've been carrying the same profile since 0.8.

No, not yet. I may give that a try, but it wouldn't be much of a comparison. I barely use the browser on the other machines, they're just bare bone installs without bookmarks and with a minimum of addons and configuration. Even if a minimum install worked, it wouldn't be much use to me without all my bookmarks, settings and addons on my main machine.Originally posted by: Chiefcrowe
hmm, that is odd.
did you try this on another pc and also did you try it on the same pc under a different user account to see if it still happens?

As I said, I tried safe mode and I have tried all the configuration tweaks and sqlite vacuuming etc. to try to get my fully loaded Firefox working as normal pre-3.5, but I haven't had any luck. Again, it seems to be a common problem out there. Searching on my symptoms turns up a lot of hits and discussions of the topic.

eBay Denies New Design Is Broken, Blames Users
But as I said, everytime I've tried, I can copy the ebay link from a stalled Firefox tab and paste in into Opera and load up without a problem. Not to mention, unrelated stalling on other sites without opening ebay. This new (broken?) ebay is just the most obvious and easy way to demonstrate stalling in Firefox 3.5.x.
I also just happened to open my Task Manager when I had 8-9 tabs open and 2-3 stalling last night (all non-ebay sites), I watched the Firefox memory use balloon up to 1GB and pin the CPU in the 90s for a few minutes while the last 2 tabs loaded. They did eventually load, but that seems ridiculous amount of memory for 2 or 3 tabs to load with another 5-6 already open.
