If i download it, will it overwrite all my old 1.5 settings? i wanna try it out, but dont want it to replace my other firefox, as a regular update would.

Just create a second profile. Not sure if it'll ask by default when you first fire it up, but you can force it to always ask for a profile by editing profiles.ini somewhere within your AppData folder (or something like that, wherever your profiles are stored).

it can use the same profile, just make sure you install in a different location other than program files.

I'm using the release candidate now and it does nothing to change your previous settings.....my experience is that it works like a regular upgrade except that existing skins and themes don't work. Except one.....Forecast Fox has been updated and is working now. I suggest you backup FF settings, favorites, etc. with Mozbackup and then uninstall FF before installing the RC. I recently changed rigs, installed a fresh version of FF and then restored everything using Mozbackup and it worked flawlessly.
