Firefox 15 Beta 1 is more stable than 14.0.1

Ever since I tried Firefox 14 beta 1, 2, 3, etc and even on the final version 14.0.1 I get random crashes when I am browsing with a few tabs open and a prompt to send Mozilla a Crash report...

Even without addons this happens so there is a major bug in Firefox 14.0.1

I was ready to downgrade to v13.0.1 but noticed that now there is a Firefox 15 Beta 1 already..

I installed it and now Firefox doesn't crash at all and is super snappy :)

Yeah, I think I will stick with the ESR. Firefox 10 has been stable for me. ABP has been helpful blocking unrly scripts too.

Hopefully they will actually do some QA before the next major ESR release.

Why do you even use FF? Considering your comment from the other thread "same old slow Firefox compared to the snappy Chrome (which I still love thanks to its interface and addons)" why not just use Chrome then?

FF14 has been fine for me and I haven't had a crash in quite a few versions. I doubt it's a major bug if you seem to be the only one here reporting constant crashes (and apparently on Mozilla as well since they released it).

You are totally wrong. It's just a matter of time till you get the crash.

And if you think that maybe it is an addon or flash player that is causing the crash you are also wrong because Firefox 13.0.1 and 15 Beta 1 have not crashed on me ever......stable as a rock

In fact, I have never EVER had this crash in Firefox that prompts me to send a report to Mozilla ever since I started using Firefox since v3...

Still no crash, and not seeing a huge influx of users claiming crashes either. But I guess I'm wrong.

"I have never EVER had this crash in Firefox that prompts me to send a report to Mozilla ever since I started using Firefox since v3... "

All legit "crashes" in FF come up with the prompt to send a report to Mozilla. If you have never gotten one before, you haven't had it "crash". But carry on, since you seem to have it all figured out and none of us know what we are talking about. I'll stay out of your threads and ignore any posts you make concerning FF going forward.

Have a nice day.

I don't think I've ever had a crash in FF. And I'm a heavy internet user. Nobody seems to be having issues on any of the machines we've deployed it on, and all of my family members aren't having issues either. Not saying your not having issues, but I don't think the issues are very widespread.

I've been running the FF Nightly (i.e. alpha development test versions, currently at 17.0a1) for about a year now. For the most part, they are fairly stable -- I'd have to say overall that they represent the most stable alpha software I've ever had the pleasure to use.

Now, that being said, the last few months they've been noticeably less stable and a lot more like true alpha software (to the point where i had to actually disable auto updating). Not out and out totally crashing, but rather with some major bugs that appear and disappear randomly between Nightly's daily update patches. The most recent recurrent one for me has been related to where Nightly just all of a sudden refuses to do anything at all in Hotmail, forcing me to reinstall the prior day Nighly build to be able to work with my email. I've also seen recurrent issues related to both web pages with imbedded video, and also with FF extensions that manipulate PDF files.

Moral of the story running alpha and beta release software is to always keep a known working alpha/beta release installer available in the event you have to step back to a slightly older version due to bugs.

I use Firefox. I don't use other broswers because I don't waste time in my life going from product A that works just fine to product B when it isn't fixing any problems. So, I'd have to spend time installing Chrome and learning how to use the power user pieces to it.

Firefox 15 plugs the add-on leaks.

Perhaps the cause of the crashes were in part due to memory exhaustion brought on by the memory leaks.

On the basis that FF 15 has the memory leaks fixed and FF 14 does not - I would hazard an educated guess that FF 15 is more stable than the stable release of 14.0.1 unless it too has the memory leak fix.

Just tested both and they work for me. maybe it is an addon having problems?

berry - thanks for posting that link, good read there!

Does anyone else using this FF version have a problem with javascript on this page? None of the expandable categories work, and this video doesn't play (posted in OT).

np man.

While I don't appreciate some of the negative comments above accusing me as if I was a mozilla hater while in fact it has been and still is my fav. browser. I just posted an issue I faced and my friend in the netherlands faced as well maybe someone has any ideas but in stead I get bashed as if I were making this up

Anyway, for those of you who don't have the issue great...for me..

I have used every version of Firefox since v3 and never had it crash on me other than in v14 but luckily v15 beta 1 was available on the same day and it solved my issue which happened too often that made the browser not even usable as I would be typing on a forum on one page then suddenly FF will just shut down with a prompt for me to send an error report to Mozilla

Thanks for testing. I'll have to research this more.

/edit: Allowing Vimeo cookies solved it.

I've had my browser (v15b1) open much of the day and it's hogging nearly 1gb of memory. I haven't had stability issues, but that's not to say it's learned how to release memory the extensions claim.

Seems like every time I check I'm between 400mb-500mb. I've never had a memory issue I'm aware of with Firefox.

My FF 14.0.1 crashes a lot. Like 3 times in the last hour, and around 6 times yesterday. I have been trying to see if an add-on is the problem, but am unable to pinpoint any one.

I guess I could try the beta. Will I lose support to many of my add ons?

I think it intentionally caches stuff into ram so that it'll load faster/instantly if you visit those sites/images again before closing. I see a lot of interesting values when I search for "cache" in about:config anyway:

How much ram do you have? Maybe it uses higher values if you have more.

opera is more stable than both. tired of joke firefox

Opera Turbo crashes every single time I use it. Opera also has more rendering issues than any browser I've used. Additionally it's proprietary software, so you can't inspect or change it.

Opera's a decent browser, but it's a trade off of problems. It definitely isn't clearly better than any other major player.

Have a nice day.

I'll bite ,tried Firefox 14.0.1 and had a few crashes ie mainly locks up so you have to close it via Task Manager, not bothered really since I use Opera 12.1 as my main browser which is rock solid (as usual).

I have uninstalled Firefox (was curious to see if there was any major improvements over older builds I have used).

I was surprised to see Chrome now top browser for downloads over Firefox, looks like a lot of people are leaving Firefox for Chrome.
