I have reevaluated my previous statement on how great Opera is, I am using FF 1.5 now and it's just simply the best out there now!!!! This thing is blazing fast!!!!!

Hrmm...

Can I grab it from the update tool in the previous version of FF (1.0.7?) or is it a fresh download?

It's fast but it's still a memory hog. I used it until it crashed on me and lost everything that I was doing. That's what I missed about Opera, if it crashed it would at least ask me to resume where I left it.

Yep, I must agree with you on that one. Opera has two big advantages, mouse gestures and the ability to continue from last session, I think eventually we will see these included in FF or at least an extension to give us these abilities.

The update tool didn't seem to recognize 1.5. I went straight to mozilla.com and downloaded it.

When people say a browser is fast WTF are they talking about???? I think it's psychological or something.....because on a cable connection opera=i.e.=FF for loading times. Any site I've gone to, and compared, it's basically a snap of the fingers for a page to load....

I haven't noticed any differences from all the Firefox updates that have been put out, and I've been using it since 1.0. I just don't like the way Opera feels, or looks, so it's Firefox for me.

I think it depends on the site, some will load faster in certain browsers. It seemed Opera was faster at rendering most websites for me for a while, but the new FF seems to be right on par so that advantage is gone. Just my .02

Can't wait to jump on the 1.5 band wagon but I gotta wait until some of the extensions I use are ported to 1.5 :(

the page rendering engine in each browser is different, operas has alwasy been the fastest IMO, havent tried FF 1.5 yet tho, just load up a page in IE and in opera/FF you can watch it first hand

in terms of browser speed its kinda like this

Opera >/= FF > Netscape > IE > Safari > IE Mac

There are still some basic operations design issues that put IE ahead of FF in my book, but these are primarily because of the web designers rather than Firefox. It sucks that there isn't a TRUE single web standard that allows all java, xml, and html to work the same across all platforms...

I'm struggling with an issue right now where IE can upload files 100% of the time using a Webmail application through a caching proxy server... Firefox freezes on this page 45% of the time, but only on certain file names and I can't figure out why. I thought it might be a caching issue, but I disabled browser cache and it still does it. :p

At work, our proxy server frequently gets backed up, even though our connection is blazing (I've gotten 1.6MB/sec before). Browsing Anandtech is normally a pain because I keep having to go back and forth until it loads a page. Because this caches more, there aren't many problems going back and forth to pages.

This browser, for me, at work, is FAR faster than IS or FF 1.0 was. That being said, it probably won't make much difference at home.

I'm wondering if it still has the issue where it screws up the keyboard shortcuts (copy/paste, etc). Used to happen all the time in the previous version and really irritated me.

A round of applause for me, please, for 'achieving' platinum status. Yet another example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser simultaneously...

Heh heh. Congrats! With this mostly worthless post, I move ever closer to "utter loser," or "lifer" status.

Yea I can't understand why yahoo music for example won't work with firefox. Keeps detecting it as an old version of nutscrape and therefore I'm unable to use their services with out using IE.
