FireFly/Serenity

Finally got my 5 free dvds from the Toshiba dealio. They replaced 3 of the movies with other titles, Serenity being one of them.
I though it was OK and when looking online, saw some references to FireFly. Anyone watch it while it was on? Worth getting the DVD(s)?
FireFly

I watched the movie first and it's really just a wrap-up of the series. The series are definitely worth a watch if you don't have problems with the western/sci-fi hybrid style of the show. In fact, I think the series is probably even more enjoyable than the movie.

I've seen the series on sale for $17 bucks or so every now and then. Definitely worth the purchase.

I thought the Firefly series was much better than Serenity. It did a lot with subtlety and wasn't so Hollywood overblown. Great character development.

I'll be in my bunk.

Firefly rocks. I never saw it on Fox, but it seems they f'ed it over by airing it out of order. Good job fox. Definitely worth $20 for it (which is what I usually see it for). That and I love Jewel Staite.

It's also on Hulu.com, so you can check out an episode or three there if you want.

Thanks but I am on satellite and have an FAP which I am at 72% of.
Edit
7,500 MB in a 30 day period.

I loved both the movie and the series. I even have a Firefly book, 1 of 2 of that are out. I so wish they'd do more seasons of Firefly... 🙁

The cast, characters, and writing for Firefly are excellent, but it was a lower budget show which can turn people off.

If you just watched Serenity without having seen Firefly, you unfortunately ruined the ending to a spectacular series for yourself. Oh well.

I watched the movie before I saw the series and it didn't ruin the tv series too much. I definitely wished I had watched the series first, but watching the movie did get me to watch the series.

Not too much, though. Just realize that all of the plot from the comic book mini-series "Serenity: Those Left Behind" would have been included in the series, and the material covered in the movie would have been stretched out to several seasons, with additional sub-plots, new characters, and a lot of other stuff thrown in. While it did give away some big stuff, I think there would have been even more if it had been developed over years instead of crammed into a movie.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the content of the "Those Left Behind" mini-series spans the year between Firefly and Serenity. The comics are available in a single volume now.

Softcover.

Hardcover.

There is also a new Serenity mini-series out called Better Days. I believe it takes place during the time of the Firefly series rather than after the movie, but I am not positive.

Firefly is one of my favorite shows. Definitely worth watching. Fox is supposedly going to be releasing it on Blu-ray sometime later this year.

BTW, Toshiba is still sending out the 5 free HD DVDs? They must have really been backed up.

I just was on a firefly marathon because it had been recommended to me by friends for a decent while and I watched all 14 episodes over the past couple days. Great Show, and the movie was nice but I really believe they could've done so much more if they had just let the series go on. Character development was a bit too quick.
