I took out a stick of 512 ram from my mobo to check to see what type of ram it was. I thought i had installed it correctly but when i started up the PC. I saw smoke and a area around where the ram is clipped in was glowing. I turned it off in about 2-3 secs. I didnt see any burn marks on the board or the ram. When i reinstalled the ram and booted the PC everything seemed ok. Should i be worried about damage? How can I tell if there is. I'm thinking of scrapping the RAM that in my PC now and getting a 1 GB (2*512) kit. will this be a problem if there is damage?

well, it still seems to work. I dont know if Id trust the socket that caused the smoke show. is memory in that socket now?

grab memtest86 and run it for a few hours, see what it come up with.

Yes I put the stick back in that socket...should I take it out and put it in another? I thought that you should always use the first socket for RAM...if I get new ram...2 512 sticks...is it OK to put the new sticks in slots 2 and 3?

If i run memtest86 what should I be looking for if something is wrong?
