"Boom, Boom
I'm a drug user,
I'm a drug abuser,
And I just shot my girlfriend

Boom, Boom
I'm on welfare
I go to jail and I just don't care
Crack is where it's at

Boom, Boom
My real career is drug dealing
I can't make money with my song stealing
And I got fired from McDonalds

Boom, Boom
West Coast, East Coast
All of us are toast,
We kill each other for fun

Boom, Boom
Parole officer say's my life is a cavalcade,
But I just got a new escalade,
Time to go commit some crimes
"

Yep, I still can do it :)

NONE of you could write the lyrics and make the beats that many of these rappers have done. It's funny to see you all thinking that you are "too cultured" for rap

No rapper could make up the exact beats I could. That doesnt mean that my beats would be/are good

Well I know poetry....and I know music..........evidently you don't. I believe that rap is just a form of rehabilitation for prisons......hell, the only "good" rappers are those with a criminal record (usually involving illegal guns). We can empty our prisons and fill backstreet recording studios (and Suge Knights pockets!!) Suge represented Vanilla Ice until that cracker became more popular than the other rappers, so he hung him by his ankles and stole his money!! I think that Beck has called for a hit on the Offspring...they offended him.

Just think..if that street corner burned, how much crack was lost?

Didn't the Mary Jane Girls record there before The Sugarhill Gang did Rapper's Delight? Further, Kurtis Blow's "The Breaks" came out shortly after those and was far superior. If you want to experience Black/R&B music in it's real form from that time frame....Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers "I Feel Like Bustin Loose"... and "Aqua Boogie" from Parliament/Funkadelics are much better choices!!! Funk rulezzz!!!!

Other than it being a joke? You don't see the irony? Fire? Cleansing? Hello?

Oh, that and I very much dislike rap "collection of incoherent words and sounds" (I refuse to call it music).

And that differs from industrial skinheads bellowing into a mic in what manner?? You think crap like Tool is better???

Here's my 2 cents... I have studied the history of music a bit and enjoy listening to almost anything..but country and its off shoot and to opera. I believe rap is music...I believe heavy metal is music....I believe opera is music...I may not like them but music is a collection of beats, tempos, and sounds put together for the enjoyment of listening.

I fell that it is a loss for music to lose this landmark. I never enjoyed SHG that much..but they deserve respect for trying something new. Same with GrandMaster Flash..KutMaster Kurt..so on and so on.

If someone doesnt want to call rap music...can they define what music is? Rap takes parts of soul and jazz and many other musics...its a blender of sounds. Rock came from bluegrass, folk, jazz, and many others also. So essentially they all came from the same place. I agree some rap is bad............but how many country/rock/blues/jazz/etc songs have you heard that are also bad? What about the political stand points that are conveyed? I also agree that all this "I-am-a-hard-@$$-music" gets annoying quick.

I guess I have a question for everyone....do people in here differentiate hip hop and rap as 2 seperate genres or are they one in the samE?

The impression that I have gotten from reading this thread is that people aren't narrow minded at all, just disrespectful! Ok so I happen to agree with Cobalt that its no big loss, but then again thats my opinion, and his is his, so who the hell cares if he is being negative. Does that mean that just cause he doesn't like something that he shouldn't have the right to express how he feels because you so happen to like it yourself??? Its an awfully arrogant position to take. If one person says that rap isn't music what right does another have to criticize the first's view. I say have your own view, stick to it and express it, just respect other's right to do the same as well.

After reading this thread I would hardly say that people are narrow minded, just egotistical. I happen to agree with Cobalt that it was no major loss, but that?s just my opinion, and his is his, so who the hell cares if he is being negative. Just because he doesn't like something should he not have the right to express that just because you so happen to like it yourself??? That is an awfully arrogant position to take. If someone doesn't think that rap is music what right do you have to go and criticize their choice to express their own opinion? I think that you should have your opinion, stick to it, express it and above all, respect other's right to do so as well.

Oh my God...you lumped Bluegrass in to the same category as Rap!!! Bill Monroe is turning in his grave and Ralph Stanley is cringing!!! Actually Rap is just the evolution of "calling" at square dances.

Swing your partner round and round....that's square dancing!!!

Swing your partner round and round
throw the hoe onto the ground................now that's Rap!!!!

Thanks.

Good riddance! I'm tired of punks playing their loud rap music at 3am driving through the neighborhood. By the time I get outside they're gone.

I really should invest in a hidden outdoor camera to film the jerks, maybe I can get a license plate number.

Assuming, of course, I can get the local PD to do something about it.
I don't enjoy or play that "crap" but I do have a loud stereo and it has nothing to do with the type of music being played. I could jam other music that would pi$$ you off at 3am but I don't. It's not a matter of music, it's a matter of consideration. The inconsiderate fscks that do that don't have any sense of responsibility because they don't have to get up for work the next day.

There's a black Blazer that drives by my place late at night all the time. I know how you feel... :disgust: :|

Whoa there, it also took a bit of arrogance for young master Nik to wade into a thread that he obviously knew would be pro-rap and post an anti-rap stance.

You venture into the stronghold of your enemy, you expect to take your lumps.

I'm as anti-rap as they come, but if I were to post that in this thread I would be doing it with a devilish smirk on my face. ;)

So are you not calling two turntables and a microphone instruments?

...or a synthasyzer?

sometimes it takes more skill to use them than a guitar or drum set....believe me ..I have used both guitar...beat machines..syths... they are all hard to learn..but the beat machines and synths are harder to learn...never tried really a turntable..except when i was at a Costa Ricans house and trying to scratch some 'Rican music..ha ha!

My three cents.....

I believe rap is music...
No. Rap USED to be music. It used to tell a story. Early Will Smith and Young MC had good beats and a story to tell. They did this without using F*ck for every other word. Heck, I`ll even say Tone Loc was music.
But while shopping for computer parts today, I heard some Eminem song where he is choking some girl and calling her bitch. There is no way on Earth that can be classified as music.

BTW, Run DMC said that Aerosmith`s "Walk This Way" is the *official* first Rap song.

Your son's stressin' you out
When he was home, he showed no respect for ya house
Now he locked up, callin' collect and you about
To put a block on your phone, Til he says you're the only one helpin' him out
He said his friends ain't there for him
He wished he'd listened when you said they don't care for him
Every night, before you sleep you say a pray for him
You even blame yourself cause you couldn't pay bail for him
You raised him the best you could
He respect you more now cause you're his best friend in the hood
He said he love you and he sorry for the trouble hes caused you
And it isn't because of you he in there

Never heard that rap verse mentioned, oh that's right none of you have ever heard this song......

I hope this ain't a bad time, did I wake you?
I've been meaning to talk to you, come over
Take a walk with you, if you don't mind
I think its time I share thoughts with you
I thought you knew my feelings, I'm making sure you do
I'm sitting on my bed, staring at the ceiling, wishing you was here
We could just talk, while I run my fingers through your hair
I'm long for your style, your conversation, your smile
I've been patient a while, there's no escaping denial
The waste of time, we could be spending
Its real what I feel, but its quite complex

:Q..... true emotion!

Love in, Love out
Nowaways is no honor, only drama
Your friend today can be your enemy tomorrow
Never show weakness, tell 'em no secrets
What's deep is, I had love for you
But due to situations, I can't mess with you
Trust is a luxury I can't afford
Betrayal's something that I can't accept

do I detect........ meaning, truth and lessons learned?.......... :Q

Exquisitely I write
Tales of hand to hand sales which cause three to life
When all else fails some people seek Jesus Christ
Some relax to the seductive mystique of the pipe
And be back inside the same cell they left
It's sort of like hell or death
Except we still here breathin' in the flesh recieving respect
Yet, being stressed cus we threats to society

have YOU ever learned an lesson and related it in a non-violent and creative way?

There's a thin line between love and hate and you crossed it
You had respect around the way and you lost it
If a coward dies a thousand deaths how you gon' live?
Now your the one who gets no love, for crossin your fam with your drug's and hustlin

If you cant find meaning in any of this poetry/rap, your just being an ass for the sake of pissing people off. Hate or like it, rap is art and expression. It's every bit as meaningful as ANY other form of music out there. Every genre has artist's that talk about some form of meaningless sexual act, violence, hate, love, emotion, lesson. Just because you have not heard it, dose not mean it dose not exist, YOU HAVE NOT HEARD EVERY SONG KNOWN TO MAN. You people are talking crap about a genre you never even listen to, yes talking out of your ass. There IS good rap out there, none of you would know that though because you listen to the garbage society feeds teen's on TV 's and Radio's and use that to judge the entire rap community. Dont throw down ebonics either, it's incredibly simple and helps voice mix into beat.

Boom Boom I'm a drug user? I'm sorry but DMX is utter sh*t and your rendition of his lyrics is even worse AZGamer. DMX along with almost every other rap artists who has made it onto TV is ALL FACE, catchy beat's and jack to talk about, who can respect that?

Rap is half assed music. It is the only way idots can make money with out getting in troubleAZdevil55

Sigh......, talking out of your ass yet again devil. I'm going to let go of my contempt towards that statement, but only because I know your JUST going on 8 year's of age, grow up.

No rapper could make up the exact beats I could. That doesnt mean that my beats would be/are goodMookow

Yeah well have fun sitting around on your computer while others make thousands of dollar's off crappy beat's that you could probably, but not for sure, be capeable of making yourself. I mean it's just that simple right?

Flame me all you want people, just needed to point out the obvious for those of you who are choosing not to see it. Some of you guy's are being horribly crule and insulting about something that ALOT of people in the world care about. Obviously I took offense, but only because your opinions are not opinions anymore, they are nothing short of pure insult.

ps: I dont care about the building, if it was really that important nobody would have let it have a chance at bruning down.

I agree with BD231...people are really being negative about a lot of things in these forums. Rap tells stories like any other music....its just more apparent when its a bad story or a made up story. I listen to Eminem..not for his vocals...but for the back ground beats and his guests singing. He has a couple of good guests. Dre is good, like him or not, in beats and story telling. I dont care for what he promotes a lot of the time but he tells his story. I personally will never buy another Jay-Z or DMX cd after buying at least one of each. I have 2 Jay-Z cds and both had one good song on them.... I have to like the beats of a song before I pay attention to the words... Religious rap is full of stories and tales...if you listen to it. What about the Beastie Boys?...IMHO, one of the best, most influential hiphop bands ever. If there was no B-boys there would be no white beat makers....no Eminem or the likes...no Vanilla Ice *haha!*..anyways..

Nice quote Nemesis77...I laughed when I read that...I automatically started saying "YAYY!!" in the sarcastic voice they use

Most music that is worth while...does not appear on MTV or VH1 or BET or any other music TV...any one heard of Grinspoon?...didn't think so...they are awesome and have never put out a video...how about Biz Markie? ...how about Orbital???

just recently however some of this hiding music is coming to tv....
