Hey nik, tell us all, what it is you do to perform on stage? I'd love to come see your act sometime.... you and your f'n clownshoes...

And I would personally escort you out of the building if you did anything other than observe the concert like everyeone else. Remember, drumsticks are multi-use tools. :D

Anyway, if you are in Portland or the metro area any time, let me know. I would be glad to bring you on stage and play for you. We'll play a Sinatra piece and sing to you, too - one of those really sappy ones.

Better yet, "Loser" by Beck. :D

Wouldn't you be singing, "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?"

Hardly the vicious attack you planned.

1) I sing, but I can't sing and drum at the same time, so I just drum
2) When you sing to someone, they are the target. Someone who is singing something derogatory while singing to someone else implies that the target is subject.

The reason why I thought this sad is because, back in the day, rap was something special and there was this whole underground aspect to it. Nowadays its all bout ghetto thugs tryin' to make a buck so they can buy more chronic (on a side note, Snoop Dogg announced he is giving up marijuana

.) Before gangsta rap, rap lyrics often had a positive vibe or some sort of poignant message. Thats lost now. The studio burning down is a reminder of how that era is lost.

rap was actually pretty decent until the advent of NWA and "gangsta" rap.... now it's all crap

On topic... sad to hear. It is a tragedy to loose a landmark of culture.
Landmark of culture? No, the Russian Tea Room would be a landmark of culture. The "birthplace" of rap is nothing more than a pimple on the ass of culture.
LOL!

Agreed.

Also, you're subject is misleading: Rap isn't music..

That's my opinion, which you can disagree with, but you'll be wrong ;)

Rap is not music, but a rather irritating noise usually ripped from the labors of other, more talented artists. Rap is teh suck!

Other than it being a joke? You don't see the irony? Fire? Cleansing? Hello?

Oh, that and I very much dislike rap "collection of incoherent words and sounds" (I refuse to call it music).

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - An early morning fire Friday destroyed a music studio believed to be the place where one of the first rap albums was recorded by the Sugar Hill Gang 23 years ago.

Firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke at Sugar Hill studio on West Street shortly before 2 a.m., Fire Chief Robert Moran said.

They entered the building but quickly retreated due to a "small backdraft explosion" caused by the ignition of toxic gases, Moran said.

The cause was not immediately determined. The fire is being investigated by the Bergen County prosecutor's arson squad, a standard procedure, as well as the Englewood fire and police departments.
Sounds like a conciencious (hell if I know if I spelled that right) citizen took it upon him/herself to turn it into something more useful... like a parking lot.

Actually, it's more of a loss to me than if you and/or your family dropped dead right now.
It's nothing personal. I am just very self involved. Fsck off and have a nice day.

Ah, young grasshopper ... you still have yet to learn that if the rap "music" was never created, then the rappers would not have "blow they heads back wit dem fo-fo's inna drive-by on WestSydazzz"

Fsck off and have a nice day.

I can do both. Can you?

Anything lost? Nope... cuz it's not like there was any tallent there to begin with anyway... If nobody is hurt, there's no loss whatsoever. nik

 Have you even ever listened to anything by the sugar hill gang? Obviously not ........
rolleye.gif

Yes, I have. Including the song believed to be the first classifiable rap song.

It's not my style. I don't like it. Obivously, since I don't like the music and easily stereotype the way rappers present themselves, means that I've never heard of the band and have no musical sense, right? Don't make me go into how many times I've been on stage performing, myself, and how ... well, nevermind. The arguement isn't worth it. Since people bitching about how negative I am, I'll just leave it as it is and know for myself.

nik

No, since you classify anything that doesnt fit into your narrowminded tunnelvisioned way of looking at the world as stupid and wrong that makes you a jackass.

I can't believe there are so many narrowminded fools here on ATOT. What's your argument for saying that rap isn't music? That rap is trash? that rappers don't have any talent?

NONE of you could write the lyrics and make the beats that many of these rappers have done. It's funny to see you all thinking that you are "too cultured" for rap
