Fire Ant Infestation - Help

Don't know much about them, but appears that I have a real issue based on the fire ant zerg this morning. Musta been a few thousand, no exaggeration. I'm calling pest control but am completely unfamiliar and don't wanna get scammed.

Anyone had to deal witht his problem before? Interested in hearing from you.

(And no, I'm not nasty - anal and super clean - I'm guessing the insane heat has driven them crazy and into my house)

The best killer for fire ants is Windex. The ASPCA won't allow it to be marketed for that purpose because apparently it is quite painful for the ants. Spray/pour Windex on the ant pile and they will die within seconds.

got to a garden center and buy a bag of Over and Out. you spread it like lawn fertilizer and it will nuke all fire ants for several months. its the exact same stuff exterminaters use.

Thanks to modern mass production and minaturization techniques, scientists have developed tiny microphones that enable us to hear the screams of ants dying from Windex.

Thanks for the serious reply. I'll look into this.

I tried windex. Bastards bit me on the foot a half dozen times. Visions of Stewie's head on a fire ant body screaming "I scoff at your rustic home remedy pesticide, you cretin!!".

Foot hurt for days. Bastards.

Just call the pest control people, they will drop some poison on them and you can call it a day. I did that right after I pulled a small weed from my lawn and came up with two of those suckers still biting my hands. My hand started to swell up and with my good hand I called a local pest control company.

Hmmm maybe.

$300 vs $20 & 15 minutes of my time...

I might take a chance on the $20 bag.

yip thats the stuff. I was in Texas last week and my moms house had an infestation of carpenter ants so i called an exterminator. while he was there i noticed a few fire ant mounds in the yard and garden and asked him if he could put something down. he said to just get a bag of over n out it has the exact same chemical exterminators use and charge you up the ass for. I used it and bam no more ants.

Actually I think it was a 30-40 charge, as we already have a pest control service come by on a monthly basis. The ant treatment was an extra charge but not completely over the top.

i always bought the bags of fire ant killer and used them on the mounds in my yard when i lived in GA

Pour gasoline on the bitches and watch them vaporize in this heat wave. Okay not vaporize, but you get the idea.

I used that over and out stuff the other day.

I am now minus 2 dogs, 2 cats, a few squirrels, and a bird or two.

just kidding.

That doesnt work. THe idea is to spread poison that they take back into the colony. So everybody, including the queen, dies.

first of all, ants wont drown, so dont think you can go out there with a water hose and just spray them with it...its not gonna work...and as for bug sprays...they kill ants too but they come back easily so dont waste money...that being said, do what you plan and call pest control

Fipronil
If that doesn't do the job, hydramethylnon based insecticides such as MaxForce are very effective. Fipronil has a faster kill rate that may cause the ants to stop taking the bait into the colony.

You can completely erradicate ants in your yard, but if your neighbors arent doing anything, then you are wasting your time. I say go get some $10 ant killing powder and control them the best you can.

with that many I would call someone. Had a few get in near the kitchen a few years ago. Bought some ant killer that you dropped on a cotton ball and left out (can't remember the name of it). Killed them pretty quick, although there wasn't many of them. They weren't fire ants though.
